It was confirmed this afternoon (3/8/18), that Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo will race with Renault Sport F1 Team for 2019 season on a two year deal, alongside Nico Hülkenberg, completing the manufacturer's driver line-up for 2019.
Ricciardo moved to Red Bull in 2014, winning seven Grand Prixs which include winning the Monaco Grand Prix this season, currently sits fifth in the drivers' championship with two wins this season. Despite he was close to signing a new deal with Red Bull Racing, Ricciardo opted to join Renault in 2019, despite Red Bull has a works Honda deal next season.
The move brings to an end to Carlos Sainz, Jr's time at Renault as Ricciardo replaces Sainz, Jr. in Renault's line-up for next season.
Also, ends to rumours that Esteban Ocon was going to race at the team next season, with rumours he was close or if not sign a deal already.
In my opinion, this was a big surprise this news happen. It has been strongly rumoured that Ricciardo will stay at Red Bull next season, despite interest from Mercedes and Ferrari. My guess Ricciardo possibly didn't sign for Red Bull because of the Honda deal, maybe its not that competitive possibly the team going backwards because of it and maybe Renault deal was the best option for Ricciardo going into next season for the short to mid term.
So, who could replace Ricciardo at Red Bull next season, my guess it would be Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly not Carlos Sainz, Jr. Because of both Sainz and Max Verstappen didn't got along at Toro Rosso, meaning it could continue also my guess that Sainz, Jr. could be off to McLaren next season. Gasly would be a better choice because of his relationship with Honda and doing impressive results this season at Toro Rosso which include a fourth place finish at Bahrain early in the season.
Its great news for the Renault team as they have got a talented Grand Prix driver.
Things are looking up for the Renault team in 2019.
