2015 Monaco Grand Prix Review and thoughts

Review of the sixth round of the 2015 F1 season at on the streets of Monte Carlo, for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Overall, I thought it wasn't the most exciting Monaco Grand Prix and probability a boring Grand Prix until lap 63 out of 78. With current F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton leading from team-mate Nico Rosberg with 20 seconds ahead, a late-race crash between Max Verstappen and Romain Grosjean on lap 64 initiated a "Virtual Safety Car" condition which was then quickly replaced by the normal safety car. Hamilton was pitted under the safety car apparently with the intention of returning him to the track ahead of his pursuers. However Mercedes had miscalculated the gap and he emerged marginally behind both Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel who had stayed out under the safety car. With the safety car coming into the pits with eight laps to go, Hamilton was ultimately unable to get past Vettel and Nico Rosberg crossed the line to conclude with a race win in this seasons Monaco Grand Prix for his second race win of the season. And for Nico Rosberg his third Monaco Grand Prix win in a row.

While, Sebastian Vettel finished in second place in the Ferrari, Vettel was four seconds behind Rosberg at the end.

Meanwhile, Rosberg's team-mate and current F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton finished in third place in the other Mercedes, he was six seconds behind Rosberg at the end of the seventy-eight lap race, were Lewis Hamilton should have won the race, but an error from the team cost him the race in Monaco.

Situation 'stagnant', says Jules Bianchi's father

The father of Jules Bianchi says he is still hoping for a miracle but admits the situation is "stagnant" and that the family is preparing for the worst.

Bianchi, 25, has been unconscious since crashing into a recovery vehicle during last October's Japanese Grand Prix.

"While there's life, there's hope, even though after a while you are hoping for a miracle," Philippe Bianchi said.

"Every day the phone is by our side. When we get up, we think of Jules' life but we think also of his death."

Speaking to French television station Canal+, he added: "We have to think about death because we are in a situation where we know a lot of things can happen. It's terrible.

"In neurological terms, I'm not sure he is able to do much now.

"The situation is stagnant. Jules' neurological progress is not what we would like it to be."

It will be nearly a year since Bianchi claimed Manor's first, and currently its only points in F1 with a ninth-placed finish at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Philippe Bianchi was speaking just days before this year's Monaco Grand Prix, situated some 15 miles from where Jules Bianchi is being cared for in a Nice hospital.

"The first thing is that Jules is alive, that's the most important thing for us," his father added.

Return of refuelling in F1 from 2017

In 2017, Formula 1 chiefs have agreed to bring back refuelling from the 2017 season onwards as part of a series of measures aimed at improving the sport's show, and will be the first time that refuelling in races has been since the 2009 season, following the latest meeting of the F1 Strategy Group from Thursday (14/5/15).

With the reintroducing for refuelling in races for 2017, other plan rules for 2017 will include aero changes, wider tyres and a reduction in car weight, engines to be higher revving and louder and more aggressive looks to the Formula 1 cars as-well, which will push for cars to be around five to six seconds per lap faster throughout the races.

Meanwhile, from the 2016 campaign, teams will be allowed to choose the two dry tyre compounds, out of the four in Pirelli's range, that they wish to use at each Grand Prix weekend.

And so here is my opinion on the free tire compound choice and the refuelling. Firstly, free tire compound choice at a quick look at it, opening up the choice of tire compounds to teams for each race weekend looks like a good idea. But, then you realise all the teams will all simply use the soft and super soft tyres for each weekend and Pirelli themselves don't want this either.

While for the reintroducing of the refuelling in races you have to look at it at both ways. Positive thing it will excite the races, and back in its heyday of refuelling it can change the race itself. Back in 1998, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher started behind both McLarens' on the grid and for the first half of the race if it would give Mika Häkkinen victory. But, then Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn changed Schumacher strategy from a two-stop strategy to a three-stop strategy, which was seen as a master-stroke by doing seventeen qualifying style laps in the middle of the race to give Michael Schumacher the race win and great example on how refuelling in races can work in your favour and change the race.

While, the negative things is safety for the mechanics in the pits. One example is back at the 1994 German Grand Prix, Jos Verstappen came into the pits; while refuelling, some fuel was accidentally sprayed onto the hot bodywork of his Benetton, a few seconds later the fuel ignited and Verstappen's car was engulfed in a ball of flames. Lucky, Verstappen escaped the incident with burns around his eyes, as he had his visor up during the pit stop. No other crew-members or any persons were injured severely or killed.

Overall, I have no podium if refuelling returns from the 2017 season onwards. But, its got to be safe for the teams and drivers, if not, don't return refuelling for 2017 because its not worth for the safety for the drivers and teams in Formula 1. All in all will all these rules will improve the sport?

2015 Spanish Grand Prix Review and thoughts

Review of the fifth round of the 2015 F1 season at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, on the outskirts of Barcelona, for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Overall, I thought it was a good race to watch and a dominating race weekend for Nico Rosberg, on pole for Sunday's race. Rosberg dominate the race, while his team-mate had a bad start and stuck behind Vettel's Ferrari for half of the race. With that, Rosberg took the opportunity and lead most of the laps to conclude with a race win in this seasons Spanish Grand Prix for his first race win of the season.

While, Rosberg's team-mate and current F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton finished in second place in the other Mercedes to give the team its third one-two finish of the season, despite Hamilton had a bad start and was mainly behind Vettel for half of the race, he was seventeen seconds behind Rosberg at the end.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel finished in third place in the Ferrari to complete the podium, Vettel was forty-five seconds behind Rosberg at the end of the sixty-six lap race.

Senna's greatest race: Portugal 1985, Senna's First Grand Prix Win

Its has been 21 years today, that Ayrton Senna has past away from us (read previous post). So we've got to celebrate Senna life, never forget Ayrton's achievements in Formula 1.

Four years back, I did a post on one of Senna best race's at Monaco in 1984, were he finished second place in an under-powered Toleman. Three years back, I wrote about his race win at Phoenix in USA back in 1990 in his McLaren. Two weeks back, I wrote about Senna famous win from the 1986 Spanish Grand Prix were he beat Nigel Mansell by 0.010 of a second.

This year another Great Ayrton Senna race win from the 1985 season, round two at a very wet race at Estroil in Portugal. Were Senna in his Lotus Renault 97T took pole position by four tenths of a second ahead of Alain Prost, and demonstrated his proficiency in wet conditions by finishing the race at least one lap ahead of every car except for second placed finisher Michele Alboreto who finished over a minute behind Senna in the end.

Highlight video of the race below.
