To Celebrate Felipe Massa's 250th and last Grand Prix start coming up at this weekends Abu Dhabi Grand Prix were he becomes the eighth driver in history to complete over 250 Grand Prixs. To celebrate this, this post is the top six best Felipe Massa F1 drives of all time. There were so many races to choose from, if there any races I have missed this is only my opinion folks.

Starting with number 6:

Number 6: 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Story:
Started fourth place for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he finished in second place ahead of team-mate Valtteri Bottas and behind Lewis Hamilton, he was two and half seconds behind Hamilton despite Hamilton had ERS problems, if the race was three to four laps more, Massa might have won that Grand Prix.

Number 5: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix
Story:
After returning for Ferrari after his head injury at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, Massa started on the front row on his return ahead of team-mate Fernando Alonso. Alonso overtake Massa at the start, in the end Massa did finish second in the race to conclude a Ferrari one-two on his return from injury.

Number 4: 2007 Bahrain Grand Prix
Story:
Massa started on pole ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso. This race was showed Massa can be a title contender and the lead driver for Ferrari with leading most of the race, fastest lap and concluding with a race win ahead of Lewis Hamilton by two seconds.

Number 3: 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix
Story:
Massa started on pole for his home race for the São Paulo native, ahead of Kimi Räikkönen by six tenths of a second from a 70 second lap. The race will be remember for overtaking master-class from Michael Schumacher. For Felipe Massa however it was a famous home win in his Ferrari leading most of the race for his second Grand Prix victory and became the first Brazilian winner in São Paulo since the late Ayrton Senna in 1993. A home win indeed.

Number 2: 2006 Turkish Grand Prix
Story:
Felipe Massa who set the fastest time in qualifying, taking his first pole position of his career, ahead of team-mate Michael Schumacher by one tenth of a second. Come the race Massa lead most of the race in his Ferrari to conclude with his first Grand Prix win ahead of both Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher.

Number 1: 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix
Story:
Massa started on pole for his home race for the São Paulo native, ahead of Jarno Trulli by four tenths of a second from a 72 second lap. In a wet to dry to wet race Massa lead most of the race to win his second home Grand Prix, his eleventh Grand Prix victory and looked set to become F1 Drivers' Champion for 2008. However, Lewis Hamilton who was sixth coming into the final lap passed Timo Glock in the final corners, as Glock struggling for grip as his dry-weather Bridgestone tyres slid on the wet track. Premature joy turned to disappointment as Hamilton finished the race in fifth position, clinching the Championship by a single point and becoming Formula One's youngest Championship winner. While, Felipe Massa went onto the podium with pride, dignity and respect despite not winning F1 Drivers' Championship and a F1 Drivers' World Championship he should have won.

To give the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix the best Felipe Massa his greatest drive in Formula 1. Happy 250th Grand Prix to one of the sports greatest ambassador Felipe Massa.

Rebellion Racing switching to LMP2 class in 2017

Top World Endurance Championship LMP1 privateer team Rebellion Racing is pulling out of the category for next season to race in LMP2 class.

Rebellion made the decision to step down a class after dominating the privateer LMP1 class of the WEC since 2012.

The team explained the increased performance of the new breed of LMP2, which will bring them close to the level of the non-hybrid LMP1s, and a desire to face increased competition as reasons for the move. Meaning putting its program with the ORECA-built Rebellion R-One on hold for 2017 and will instead compete in LMP2 class with the new ORECA 07 chassis and powered by the LMP2 spec Gibson Technology (Zytek) 4 litre V8 engine underneath.

Another reason for Rebellion's decision was the opportunity to race an LMP2 car in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Rebellion won the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in 2012 and 2013 when it fielded a Lola-Toyota B12/60 in the America Le Mans Series event in addition to its WEC assault.

The move leaves the ByKolles as the only team with an LMP1 privateer program planned for 2017 in the World Endurance Championship.

Exciting times ahead for Rebellion Racing.

Lada quits WTCC at the end of the 2016 season

It was confirmed on Thursday (10/11/16, Lada will leave from the World Touring Car Championship at the end of the 2016 season.

The Russian firm had been expected to announce its exit after it was reported last week that it had decided to end its five year stay in the WTCC. Meaning, the Qatar round of the WTCC later this month will therefore be the manufacturer's last in the series.

Lada has enjoyed its most successful season in the championship to date this year, but will now join fellow manufacturer Citroen in quitting at the end of the season. Leaving Honda and Volvo as the WTCC's remaining factory teams for 2017.

Right decision from Lada, time will tell if they done the right decision in the long term.

Confirmed: Haas F1 Team retains Romain Grosjean for 2017, Haas F1 Team signs Kevin Magnussen for 2017

It was confirmed on Friday Afternoon (11/11/16) that Haas F1 Team will retain Romain Grosjean for the 2017 Formula 1 season. While, Renault driver Kevin Magnussen will race with the team as their second driver for 2017 season on a multi-year deal.

Magnussen made his Formula 1 debut with McLaren in 2014 and claimed a second place finish in his first race, but was replaced by Fernando Alonso for 2015, instead occupying a reserve driver for 2015.

Magnussen was handed a second chance in the sport when Renault required a replacement for Pastor Maldonado prior to the start of 2016 and scored points in Russia and Singapore, with Russia his best result so far this season in seventh place.

His exit from Renault was confirmed on Wednesday when the team announced that it had retained Jolyon Palmer alongside incoming Force India racer Nico Hülkenberg for 2017 F1 season.

Magnussen's switch to Haas has now been confirmed, the Dane replaces Esteban Gutiérrez, who has so far this season failed to score a point upon his return to the sport in 2016.

In my opinion, this is not a big surprise this news happen. It has been strongly rumoured since the Mexican Grand Prix that Magnussen has signed a deal with Renault. As for Esteban Gutiérrez, my guess a return to Ferrari as their test-driver perhaps.

Things are looking up for Haas in 2017.

Friday 11 November 2016

Confirmed: Esteban Ocon joins Force India for 2017 season on a multi-year deal

It was confirmed on Thursday (10/11/16) Manor Racing driver and current GP3 Champion Esteban Ocon will race with Force India as their second driver alongside Sergio Pérez for 2017 season on a multi-year deal (rumoured to be a two year deal with an option for a third season).

Ocon, has been backed by Mercedes for a couple of years as one of their development drivers and claimed successive titles in European Formula 3 and GP3, before earning a mid-season graduation to Formula 1 with Manor replacing Rio Haryanto.

Ocon was touted as a possible Renault driver going into the 2017 F1 season after spending time with the team at the opening half of 2016 as the team's test and reserve driver.

However, Ocon have opted for the second Force India seat alongside Pérez at Force India for 2017, which opened up when current Force India driver Nico Hülkenberg elected to drive for Renault next season.

In my opinion, this is not a big surprise this news happen. It has been strongly rumoured since the United States Grand Prix that Ocon was the number one choice for Force India to replace Nico Hülkenberg for 2017 which included testing for the team during the 2015 season, which the team was impressive with his testing performance.

Things are looking up for Force India in 2017.

Wednesday 9 November 2016

Confirmed: Renault Sport F1 Team retains Jolyon Palmer till 2017

It was confirmed this afternoon (9/11/16) that Renault Sport F1 Team will retain Jolyon Palmer for next season alongside Nico Hülkenberg.

Pérez made the switch to the team in 2014 after a challenging 2013 season at McLaren, which followed on from an initial two-year spell at Sauber.

The former GP2 Champion, spent 2015 as a reserve driver with the team (known as Lotus) stepping up as one of the main driver with the team this season, with his best finish of tenth place during the Malaysian Grand Prix when its been a rebuilding year for Renault.

There were some strong rumours he could have gone from Renault at the end of the season and instead retaining Kevin Magnussen to race alongside Nico Hülkenberg for 2017. However, this did has not happen as there been strong rumours from last week that Kevin Magnussen will move to Haas instead next season, replacing Esteban Gutiérrez who have not scored a single point so far this season.

Overall, a good decision from Renault to keep Jolyon Palmer for next season. If Renault steps up on the development side of the car and power unit package next season, Jolyon Palmer could be having strong results going into 2017 and proving why he should stay in Formula 1 for many years to come.

Confirmed: Williams retains Valtteri Bottas for 2017, Lance Stroll step up to race with Williams in 2017!

It was confirmed on Thursday morning (3/11/16) that Williams F1 team will retain Valtteri Bottas for the 2017 Formula 1 season. While, European Formula 3 champion and Williams development driver Lance Stroll will make his Formula 1 debut with the team next season, confirming the teams 2017 line-up.

Stroll who is only 18, will be the youngest driver on the grid next season and will become the second youngest Formula 1 driver in history, after Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Stroll, will be replacing the retiring Felipe Massa, will partner Bottas, who will be driving his fifth season for the team.

Stroll was signed to Ferrari's Driver Academy at aged 11 and graduated to single-seater racing in 2014 off the back of a career in karting.

Stroll secured the Italian Formula 4 title in 2014 with the Prema team, making the step up to Formula 3 in 2015 with the same team.

Stroll departed Ferrari's academy to take up a role as Williams' development driver for 2016/ But remained with Prema team in 2016, winning the European Formula 3 title with fourteen wins from thirty races.

He becomes Canada's first driver on the Formula 1 grid since Jacques Villeneuve, who departed the sport mid-2006, nine years after winning the world drivers' title with Williams, the team's last F1 world champion.

Overall, its the right decision for Bottas to stay at Williams for another season, despite he was heavily rumoured with a switch to Renault next season.

As for Lance Stroll, this is not a big surprise this news happen. It has been strongly rumoured since the Belgium Grand Prix in August that Stroll has signed a deal with Williams, which include financial backing from Lance Stroll's father Lawrence Stroll who's a billionaire and net-worth of US$2.4 billion (£3 Billion). Personally, I would like to see him have another season in a lower formula (GP2 Series maybe) and do Friday practice sessions for the team rather than being out of his depth in Formula 1 at a young age. But, lets see what Stroll can do in Formula 1 before being judgemental on this question.

Anyway, good luck for both Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll next season at Williams.

It's Official - VW quits World Rally Championship at the end of the season

It was confirmed on Wednesday (2/11/16), that Volkswagen will pull out of the World Rally Championship at the end of the season to end its four year involvement in the series.

The decision was taken at a board meeting in Wolfsburg on Tuesday morning. The German manufacturer will focus on its efforts on customer-based competition, with its Golf TCR and Beetle GRC rallycross car.

However, they will return to rallying following the development of an R5-specification Polo in 2018. But, the all-new Polo R WRC built for next season new WRC rules will not be used.

Volkswagen won forty-two of the fifty-one WRC rounds since they have return with the Polo in 2013, with Sebastien Ogier taking four drivers' titles and VW taking four manufacturers' titles.

My opinion I think it's a sad decision from Volkswagen that they are leaving the WRC at the end of the season. I do believe that Volkswagen reason is (they properly won't say) the backlash from the Volkswagen emissions scandal from last year rather than what VW have achieved within the last four years.

Sad we won't see the all-new Polo R WRC next season with all-new WRC rules introduce. I would like to see the Polo R WRC next season with a team that can developed it such as Prodrive. They have develop a VW Golf for the Chinese Rally Championship which they are won the championship in 2015.

I do hope that VW does return to the WRC one day, I believe VW is a great brand for the WRC. At least Citroen, Toyota, M-Sport (Ford) and Hyundai are going no where from the WRC at least for a year.
