Singapore Grand Prix Review, one race done, three or four to go, Korean Grand Prix?

A quick review of the race, and are we going to the Korean International Circuit in three weeks time.

Good points

  • Fernando Alonso (pole to win)
  • Red Bull Racing (Sebastian Vettel finished 2nd, Mark Webber finished 3rd)
  • Nico Rosberg (finished 5th)
  • Williams (Rubens Barrichello finished 6th, Nico Hulkenberg finished 10th)
  • Robert Kubica (should have finished 6th, but for right rear puncture till the end, but still overtake a few people in the end and finished 7th)

Bad points

  • Lewis Hamilton (another dnf, incident with Mark Webber)
  • Force India (Sutil 9th, Liuzzi dnf)
  • Sauber (Kobayashi dnf, Hiedfied dnf)
  • HRT (Senna dnf, Klien dnf)
  • Michael Schumacher (finished 13th, a poor second half of a race)

Overall a good race, and a good fight for the lead with Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, with Alonso doing a striaght line to finish win will done Fernando. With the drivers championship, top five split by 25 points altogether. With four (or three) races to go, its hotting up.

WIth the incidence with Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton, when Hamilton attempted to pass Webber at turn seven on the restart lap after the second Safety car period, where Webber's Red Bull escaped without damage, but Hamilton's suspension (just leading ahead of Webber then) was broken and he was forced out, his second retirement in two races. It was just a racing incident in my opinion, could have cost Webber a drive through penalty, well done race stewards for the decision.

But wasn't impressed with the stewards decision with Adrian Sutil and Nico Hulkenberg giving them 20 second penalty after the race, for both cutting at turn seven on the first lap!, When the decision was made after the race. So why do the penalty in the race?, so in my view the penalties should be void, because the decision should have been 20 minutes after the incidence (it's in the rule book). So poor decision stewards have created then.

So with the latest news with the Korean Grand Prix lately, are we going in three weeks time? In my opinion if the track isn't ready 90 days ago before hand, let alone three weeks time and still not ready, and my answer is no. But track designer Hermann Tilke says it will be ready. Below, footage of Karun Chandhok driving a Red Bull around South Jeolla Circuit a few weeks back.

I think Bernie Ecclestone being a bit forgiving this time (usually his unforgiving remember Donnington last season). If I was Bernie? say no. It gives a message to the organisers and future organisers such as Jaypee Circuit in India (an Indian Grand Prix in 2011 is schedule) and organisers in Austin, Texas (for the United States Grand Prix, schedule for 2012). Get your stuff into gear, and It gives a clear message 'Don't mess with Bernie!' for the future.

That is all, Bye.

Some personal news I've got to discuss

I've got some personal news I need to discuss with you peeps.

1. The blogs I'm going to write may now not be weekly always, because I'm at uni now for the next eight months, so it won't be weekly, but wait and see.

2. I want to show one of my mates 3D animation below, that is created in Bryce, the formula one car my mate did not create, but his friend did created in Maya, and the car is based around 1999 Ferrari (F399). It's only for five seconds, but enjoy the footage.

3. Thirdly I've had got a twitter account called:
twitter.com/jonnyh5onracing (by the way I would like to jonnyh5onmotorsport, but the typing couldn't fit, so maybe the blogger name may change then?) so you can look at my tweets. And as Jorge Lorenzo said on his board at Indianapolis from a few weeks ago. "Follow me on Twitter".

Singapore Grand Prix race review later in the week. So that is all, bye.

Monday 20 September 2010

MotoGP Aragon round review, BTCC Donington Park review.

Just one post this week, writing about MotoGP, BTTC and Formula One predictions for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Good points

  • Ducati Team (Casey Stoner: pole to win, Nicky Hayden: qualified 4th finished 3rd pip Lorenzo at the last lap past, which he called 'Backyard move')
  • Dani Pedrosa, finished second reduce the lead of the championship
  • San Carlo Honda Gresini Team (Marco Simoncelli finished 7th behind Rossi, Marco Melandri finished 9th)
  • Álvaro Bautista (The only Suzuki rider this weekend, because Loris Capirossi out with a hand injury, despite this finished 8th)

Bad points

  • Anyone on a Yamaha this weekend (minus Ben Spies, who finished 5th, but Jorge Lorenzo finished 4th, Valentino Rossi finished 6th, by the way has an injured solider, Colin Edwards finished 12th)
  • Andrea Dovizioso: crashed at the end of the last lap, could have finished 5th, but great battle with Spies

If I think I've type about this in one my early blog will Casey Stoner will ever win a race this season with Ducati? I didn't said yes or no, but with the form of Dani and Jorge no, but I think Casey prove me wrong with a Strong performance all weekend to concluded with the win. To be honest, Great weekend for Ducati they needed it, no win all this season (not since Sepang last season) until last weekend at Aragon. But, don't Forget Nicky Hayden, who finished 3rd, piping Jorge Lorenzo at the end of the race at the mini corkscrew, the last time he finished on the podium was at Indianapolis last season, he has been closed this to get a couple podium this season (Qater, Le mans and Silverstone) but he needed it, good job Nicky, Casey and Ducati.

With the championship Dani Pedrosa has reduce the gap from Jorge Lorenzo, lead to 56 points with five rounds to go. As I said in a previous blog, can Dani can catch Jorge? not sure again, but in two weeks time, three races of the five rounds in three weeks starts at Motegi, what the difference will be interesting to see.

I've also watched last weekend rounds at the BTCC round at Donnington Park, first thing great to see Donnington Park back of a racing calendar (since the failed Formula One attempted of Bringing the British Grand Prix to Donnington, which it failed). They added an improved Goddards chicane, which improves better overtaking, and a longer Wheatcroft straight.

As of the racing, great races, wins for Gordon Shedden (Honda Civic), Tom Onslow-Cole (Ford Focus ST LPG) and Matt Neal (Honda Civic) win a piece, as for championship leader Jason Plato (Chevrolet Cruze) a couple of thirds (minus a dnf in race one). As for Drivers championship Jason Plato is leading the championship with 224 points, with 14 points ahead of Matt Neal (on 207 points), 21 ahead of Gordon Shedden (203 points), 24 ahead of Tom Onslow-Cole (200 points). So with 24 points separating the top 4, three races at Brand Hatch Indy Circuit, at the last round. The championship could be interesting to see the conclusion in two weeks time. Don't forget Jason Plato did won the last three races, at last season final round at Brands. But don't forget he had two dnf's at Brands early on in the season on the Grand Prix layout. Can't wait for Brands.

And for the predictions for the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, which is the only night race of the season. Mark Webber to win with his Red Bull, Fernando Alonso second in his Ferrari and Robert Kubica third in his Renault. And don't forget Sebastian Vettel or the McLaren's (Lewis Hamilton did won this race last season). So here comes the last few races of the season.

Great weekend for racing. That is all, Bye.

Second Blog this week, which includes Lotus and Renault

Right the second Blog of two blogs this week, this one is about news from the last few days, which includes posable Lotus and Renault tie up.

In other news this week, Formula 1 and besides Formula 1 with other championships

Robin Frijins wins the last European Formula BMW championship. I think Robin going to be in Formula 3 or GP3 next season with a top team.

Esteban Gutierrez wins GP3 championship.Winning the first ever championship of the series. Esteban will be in GP2 next season, possibly with the same team he won the championship in this season GP3 championship (ART). Also he has connections with Sauber, he will possibly get a couple test sessions at Abu Dhabi later in the year.

Pastor Maldonado wins GP2 championship with a round to spare. So were we going to see him next season? His talented driver, but I think he needs a bit of Venezuelan money may help him to get a drive, where possibly a team like Sauber or Virgin maybe. But, don't forget not all GP2 champions doesn't go into Formula 1 remember Giorgio Pantano (he did drive for Jordan in 2004).

Specking of Sauber, Nick Hiedfied will be replacing Pedro de la Rosa for the rest of the season, starting at Singapore on 26th September.

Lotus will teaming up with Renault next season

Lotus will be possibly teaming up with Renault next season. This will includes the whole drivetrain, which includes engine, gearbox and kers system. The contract will be a two year deal, replacing the deal they had with Cosworth.

Tony Fernandes of Lotus Racing, felt it was more around gearboxes area they wasn't satisfied with this. Lotus, Virgin and HRT uses a Xtrac gearbox which it's hasn't been reliable this season, nor in last weekends Italian Grand Prix with Jarno Trilli (Lotus) and Timo Glock (Virgin), whereas Williams uses their own gearbox. Tony wasn't really satisfy with the engine when speaking on the BBC, when he was interview on Sunday.

Also, there is a possibility that Tony Fernandes's team will be rebranded as ' Team Lotus' returning one of the sports famous name back onto the grid next season.

Also, Mark Smith the design director for this seasons Force India car, will be joining Lotus next season designing the car alongside Mike Gascoyne (who been work mates at Renault, Jordan and Force India).

Tony Fernandes will also like to bring a team into GP2 next season, if possible, so they can develop drivers and mechanics the lower formula, so they can be in Formula 1 in seasons to come.

With these updates such as bring in Mark Smith, as well bringing in the Renault package. This will bridge the gap to the likes of Toro Rosso, Sauber, Williams and Force India. And with new tyre supplier Pirelli, who will come next season in Formula 1 replacing Bridgestone for all teams. As well they need to keep their their current drivers (Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovaliainen) next season this will give a good opportunity to get points next season. As for this season, they done well coming in late building the car. There target for the rest of the season, is to finish 10th in the F1 constructors championship ahead of Virgin and HRT.

And So, with Lotus and Renault making the deal together are we gonna have another fastest ever Lotus (since the 1986 Lotus Renault, Lotus T98, a 1.5 litre Renault engine that produced over 1000 bhp) doubt it, but will it be a fast Lotus, who knows, that is all, bye.

Italian Grand Prix Review (the championship closes up)

Right I'm going to do two blogs this week, it would have one, I think its a bit too long for one whole one, so for now the Italian Grand Prix Review.

Good points and Bad points of the Italian Grand Prix

Good points

• Ferrari (Fernando Alonso was on pole and won the race), (Filipe Massa qualified 3rd and finished 3rd)

• Jenson Button (qualified 2nd and finished 2nd)

• Vettel (qualified 6th, finished 4th, didn’t pit until lap 52 out of 53 racing on the soft tires as well)

• Nico Rosberg (qualified 7th, finished 5th)

• Williams (Nico Hulkenberg qualified 8th and finished 7th, Rubins Barrichello qualified 10th, finished 10th, more points for Williams in constractors championship, challenging Force India for sixth place)

• Timo Glock (qualified 24th, due to gearbox change, but finished 16th, ahead of the Lotus Racing)

Bad points

• Lewis Hamilton (out of race with a collision with Filipe Massa)

• Force India (no points for both drivers, Williams closing the gap for sixth in the constractors)

• HRT (Bruno Senna with Hydraulics problem, Saxon Yamamoto pit stop incidence)

• Kamui Kobayashi (gearbox ended his race at lap one)

At the Start Button passed Alonso at the start of the race, at the Variante del Rettifilo chicane, Alonso just touch the back of Button. Where something seems to have come of the undertray, which effects Jenson’s downforce throughout the race, Jenson driving and defending was good, he couldn’t do no better throughout the race. When Jenson came into the pits for his pit stop at lap 36, Fernando stretch the Ferrari legs for two laps, when on lap 38, he pitted for his pit stop. Came out ahead of Jenson, added some fastest laps to win the race for Fernando. Well done Fernando, well done Ferrari for a good race.

With the Lewis Hamilton retiring in the first lap, with a collision with Filipe Massa at Variante dells Roggia chicane, while Mark Webber finishing in sixth place. And Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button finishing first and second, don't forget Sebastian Vettel done a brilliant pit stop strategy on lap 52, finishing in forth place the drivers championship is hotting up. 24 points separate the top 5 in the drivers’ championship with the five flyaway races to go.

Don't forget the constructors champions this even interesting, Red Bull are leading McLaren by three points. Don't forget Ferrari they're only 60 points behind Red Bull, with five races to go, who knows, bring on Singapore.

Next blog later today or tomorrow, that is all, bye.

FIA got the Ferrari decision wrong, Italian Grand predictions

The FIA got the decision wrong with the Ferraris one two at Hockinheim. During this years German Grand Prix the incident occurred when Felipe Massa was leading the race and then received a message from Rob Smedley (Massa's race engineer) stating that "Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm that you understood that message?" Shortly later at the exit of the hairpin at turn four, Massa slowed down and gave the lead to Alonso. Just after the overtake was made, Smedley came onto the team radio and said "Good boy, sorry". Later on in the day, Ferrari were fined 100,000 dollars by the stewards for violating Article 39.1 of the rule book, which forbids the use of team orders.

Ferrari was summoned before the World Motor Sport Council (Yesterday, Wednesday 8th September). Were the punishment stand, wasn't added. Jean Todt (President of the FIA) did not get involved in the discussions because of his History with Ferrari (Team Principal and CEO of Ferrari from 1993 to 2008), leaving the Council to make its own decision. Said in an Interview with the BBC, he states:

"Before you say you are guilty, you need to be able to prove that you are guilty, And if you understand all the parts that have been asked, everyone has denied that it was a team order"

When the reporter respond to suggestions that, despite Ferrari's denials, many people believed the outfit had used team orders, Todt said: "I tend to agree as well."

So, if they want evidence that Ferrari were Guilty of team orders. Look no further of the body language of Felipe Massa after the race and race podium, would give a few clues. Don't need to be Miss Marble to figure it out with Rob Smedley what he said between the lines it is a team order saying in those messages: "Can you confirm that you understood that message? ... sorry". If I was in World Motor Sport Council giving the punishment, it would be:

  • 5 - 10 million dollars fine would be for a start
  • Hockinheim points Ferrari got in the constructors championship that weekend (43 points) would have been taken away
  • And a suspended two race ban until the end of 2011

If I was Judge, jury and executioner. But, I'm not a member of World Motor Sport Council or the President of the FIA so it will never happen. So would over teams such as Mclaren or Red Bull will do it, if it gonna cost 100,000 dollars who would for both world championships. It might happen, Until the rule is sorted.

So, predictions for Italian Grand Prix, a McLaren one two, with Lewis Hamilton leading from Jenson Button, Mark Webber in third place. Don't count out anyone from Sebastian Vettel, Ferraris, Mercedes or even a surprise from Force India again from last season (Adrian Sutil started from second, finished forth). That is all, bye.

Shoya Tomizawa 1990-2010

Shoya Tomizawa was competing in todays eleventh round of the Moto2 World Championship, the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano On lap 12, Tomizawa fell in Turn 10, a fast right-hand corner, when he was forced wide and lost grip in his rear tyre. He was then hit by the motorbikes of Scott Redding and Alex de Angelis in which he suffered cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma. He was initially taken to hospital in Riccione. Were he died from these injuries at half past two local time, aged 19. His death was announced at the end of the MotoGP race. The podium flags were lowered to half-mast, and the podium was celebrated without champagne. Tomizawa was the first MotoGP fatality since the late Daijiro Kato was killed at Suzuka in 2003 riding the Motogp class.
Condolences goes to Shoyas family and friends, His first race this season at Qatar this year was impressed me this season so much. Had the possibly of a MotoGp rider in the making. Still a sad day for motor racing. Remember Shoya for the good times such as his first two rounds this season, finishing 1st (Qatar) and 2nd (Jerez) leading the Moto2 championship at this period.

After the Motogp were Dani Pedrosa won the race head of Jorge Lorenzo, while Valentino Rossi finished 3rd in his home GP. Were they all emotional about Shoya Death, even seen Dani in tears. Knew that it wasn't about racing today, but about Shoyas Death. But today is about Motorsport can be a dangerous place, as it says on the ticket. Today we lost a person who was a polite, respectful, happy and funny - which again would have carried him in great stead through his career.

Rest in Peace Tomizawa-san, you will be much missed.
