2018 WTCR Round 1 Recap - Race of Morocco

From the start of 2018 season, both World Touring Car Championships and TCR International Series is merge into one series and renamed as the World Touring Car Cup adapting TCR rules.

Review of Round One of the 2018 World Touring Car Cup season was the Race of Morocco, on the Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan in Marrakech, Morocco.

In the first race, BRC Racing Team driver Gabriele Tarquini took the race win in his Hyundai i30 N TCR. Second was YMR driver Thed Björk in his Hyundai i30 N TCR, he was half a second behind Tarquini in the end. While third place was Sébastien Loeb Racing driver Robert Huff in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, he was three seconds behind Tarquini in the end.



Meanwhile in the second race, Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil Team driver Jean-Karl Vernay took the race win in his Audi RS 3 LMS TCR. Second was Sébastien Loeb Racing driver Mehdi Bennani in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, he was nine tenths of a second behind Vernay in the end. While third place was Campos Racing driver Pepe Oriola in his Cupra León TCR, he was three seconds behind Vernay in the end.



Finally in the third race, BRC Racing Team driver Gabriele Tarquini took the race win in his Hyundai i30 N TCR. Second was YMR driver Yvan Muller in his Hyundai i30 N TCR, he was two and half seconds behind Tarquini in the end. While third place was YMR driver Thed Björk in his Hyundai i30 N TCR to complete a Hyundai podium whitewash, he was three seconds behind Tarquini in the end.



Next stop Race of Hungary at the Hungaroring for Round Two of the 2018 World Touring Car Cup season in three weeks time.
