2018 World RX Round 1 Recap - World RX of Barcelona

Review of Round One of the 2018 World Rallycross Championship season was the World RX of Barcelona, at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on the outskirts of Barcalona, Spain.

In the four Heats, those were won by Mattias Ekström, Petter Solberg (winning twice) and Timmy Hansen.

In the first semi-final that was won by PSRX Volkswagen Sweden driver Petter Solberg in his Volkswagen Polo R. Second was PSRX Volkswagen Sweden driver and current World Rallycross Champion Johan Kristoffersson in his Volkswagen Polo R, he was under three seconds behind Solberg in the end. While, third was EKS Audi Sport driver Andreas Bakkerud in his Audi S1, he was three seconds behind Solberg in the end.

In the second semi-final that was won by EKS Audi Sport driver Mattias Ekström in his Audi S1. Second was Team Peugeot Total driver Sébastien Loeb in his Peugeot 208, he was three and half seconds behind Ekström in the end. While, third was GRX Taneco Team driver Niclas Grönholm in his Hyundai i20, he was fives seconds behind Ekström in the end.

In the final race, EKS Audi Sport driver Mattias Ekström took the race win in his Audi S1. However, he was later stripped of his win after he forced pole-sitter Petter Solberg out of contention on the first corner of the first lap. Therefore giving PSRX Volkswagen Sweden driver and current World Rallycross Champion Johan Kristoffersson the race win in his Volkswagen Polo R. Second was Team Peugeot Total driver Sébastien Loeb in his Peugeot 208, he was twelve tenths of a second behind Kristoffersson in the end. While, third was EKS Audi Sport driver Andreas Bakkerud in his Audi S1, he was two and half seconds behind Kristoffersson in the end.



Next stop World RX of Portugal at Pista Automóvel de Montalegre for Round Two of the 2018 World Rallycross Championship season in two weeks time.
