Dennis arrived at McLaren in late 1980, steering it to an array of world titles, but his fellow shareholders that include long-time business partner Mansour Ojjeh, and Bahrain sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat have taken the decision to place him on gardening leave until his contract expires.
Last week, Dennis failed in a High Court attempt to secure an injunction against directors suspending him, after tabling a reported £1.6 billion takeover bid from a group of Chinese investors.
As it stands, Dennis remains on the boards of both the McLaren Technology Group and McLaren Automotive Limited, as well as continuing as a shareholder in the two companies as Dennis still holds a 25 per cent stake in the group.
It's an end of an era of one Formula 1 most dominated team boss in the history of the sport.
