It was confirmed this afternoon (9/11/16) that Renault Sport F1 Team will retain Jolyon Palmer for next season alongside Nico Hülkenberg.
Pérez made the switch to the team in 2014 after a challenging 2013 season at McLaren, which followed on from an initial two-year spell at Sauber.
The former GP2 Champion, spent 2015 as a reserve driver with the team (known as Lotus) stepping up as one of the main driver with the team this season, with his best finish of tenth place during the Malaysian Grand Prix when its been a rebuilding year for Renault.
There were some strong rumours he could have gone from Renault at the end of the season and instead retaining Kevin Magnussen to race alongside Nico Hülkenberg for 2017. However, this did has not happen as there been strong rumours from last week that Kevin Magnussen will move to Haas instead next season, replacing Esteban Gutiérrez who have not scored a single point so far this season.
Overall, a good decision from Renault to keep Jolyon Palmer for next season. If Renault steps up on the development side of the car and power unit package next season, Jolyon Palmer could be having strong results going into 2017 and proving why he should stay in Formula 1 for many years to come.
