Sergio Pérez leaves Racing Point at end of season, what's next for Pérez?

It was confirmed on Wednesday (9/9/20) that Sergio Pérez will leave Racing Points at the end of the 2020 season, bringing an end to his long-term partnership with the team.

Pérez joined the team when it ran under the Force India name in 2014 and was a leading factor behind its survival in 2018, when it was taken over by a consortium headed by Lawrence Stroll.

Pérez, signed a three-year contract with the team last season and it is likely that he accepted terms to terminate his deal after 2020.

With Pérez’s leaving, strongly rumoured that Sebastian Vettel will join the team next season alongside Lance Stroll as the re-branded Aston Martin Racing.

Overall, the news is not the biggest surprise due to rumoured for while Vettel may join the team for 2021, with Lance Stroll having a stronger season than Pérez meaning, one of the current drivers was leaving, sadly it was Sergio Pérez.

So what's next for Pérez? There is only two options, Haas or a return to Alfa Romeo (Sauber). If he goes to Haas he is replacing Romain Grosjean, if he goes to Alfa he is replacing Kimi Räikkönen, my guess he is going to Alfa Romeo alongside former team-mate Nico Hülkenberg for 2021.

Whatever the outcome for 2021, interesting times ahead for Sergio Pérez.
