Last year, the GreenGT Technologies team was selected by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest to enter the GreenGT H2, the first racing hydrogen/electric prototype for the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans race. With three weeks to go till the big race, GreenGT team has decided that due to insufficient preparation GreenGT has decided to withdraw its entry for this years 24 hour race.
The 56th garage is a place offered on the starting grid to a car judged to be technically innovative by the ACO, although it races in the event outside the overall general classification like the DeltaWing did in 2012, the first car to be awarded by ACO. But, if was going to race the GreenGT H2 Hydrogen fuel cell that produces electricity to drive two electric motors would have produce around 540 bhp, sitting on a bespoke chassis built by the Welter Racing team. The GreenGT H2 would have weights 1,240kg and a top speed of 186mph.
Meanwhile for the 2014 race, the 56th garage will be occupied by Nissan in agreement with the decision was announced a few months ago by the ACO, as the Japanese manufacturer has decided to enter an All-Electric LMP1 Car in 2014 as early reports suggests.
