A lucky escape for some

It has been announced yesterday (21/6/13) that Mercedes will be banned from the annual Young Driver Test and gets an official reprimand, after testing with Pirelli in Barcelona after this seasons Spanish Grand Prix. Pirelli itself escapes with just a reprimande. That's the outcome of the FIA hearing in Paris on Thursday.

Mercedes says it accepts the decision of the FIA International Tribunal and won't appeal against the ruling made in relation its tyre test with Pirelli.

The FIA Tribunal elected to reprimand the team and also banned it from taking part in the annual Young Driver Test, having decided that it had benefitted from the Pirelli test despite acting in good faith and not deliberately trying to gain an unfair advantage.

And so to my opinion, I feel that Mercedes F1 team had a lucky escape yesterday, as the punishment could have been worse, I felt that the Monaco win for Nico Rosberg would have been striped and a two race ban beckoned for the Mercedes team or even a two year suspending ban for the team. Instead, the team only is banned from the annual Young Driver Test after the British Grand Prix and gets an official reprimand, after testing with Pirelli after this seasons Spanish Grand Prix is a lucky escape for that punishment to happen to any team.

End of blog/post for now, new post soon. Bye.
