Top Six Hart Engine F1 cars, Brian Hart 1936 - 2014

With recent news that British engineer Brian Hart (7 September 1936 – 5 January 2014) who passed away on Sunday after a long battle against illness. Hart’s company built F1 engines for a number of teams, including Toleman, RAM, Haas Lola and in the mid-1990s with Jordan, Arrows, and Minardi, taking five podiums in total - including the first for both Ayrton Senna (in 1984) and Rubens Barrichello (in 1994).

He also raced himself and actually qualified for the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in 1967 – his sole outing in F1.

So this post is the top six Hart engine F1 cars, this post won't have all-star of Formula 1 cars from the Cosworth post. But, this post will be more of the underdog teams using underdogs of engines in Formula 1 history.

Starting with Number 6:

Number 6: 1996 Footwork FA17
Story: Footwork FA17 was designed by Alan Jenkins. The FA17 was powered by the 3.0 litre V8 Hart engine. The Footwork FA17 took Jos Verstappen only to a sixth place finished at 1996 Argentine Grand Prix at Buenos Aires. The Footwork FA17 took Footwork (Arrows) to ninth place in the Constructors standings in 1996 with only 1 point overall.



Number 5: 1993 Jordan 193
Story: Jordan 193 was designed by Gary Anderson and Andrew Green. The 193 was powered by the 3.5 litre V10 Hart engine. The Jordan 193 took Rubens Barrichello almost a third place finish at 1993 European Grand Prix at a wet Donington park. However, a fuel system problem with his car, with just only six laps to end cost him a podium in his debut season. However, the Jordan 193 did took a double point finish at the Japanese grand Prix at Suzuka for a fifth place for Rubens Barrichello and a sixth place for a debuting Eddie Irvine. The Jordan 193 took Jordan to eleventh place in the Constructors standings in 1993 with 3 points overall.



Number 4: 1983 Toleman TG183B
Story: Toleman TG183B was designed by Rory Byrne. The TG183B was powered by the 4-clyinder turbocharged Hart engine which produced approximately 580 bhp. The Toleman TG183B took Derek Warwick to two fourth place finished at Zandvoort and Kyalami. The Toleman TG183B took Toleman to ninth place in the Constructors standings in 1983 with 10 points overall.



Number 3: 1995 Footwork FA16
Story: Footwork FA16 was designed by Alan Jenkins. The FA16 was powered by the 3.0 litre V8 Hart engine. The Footwork FA16 took Gianni Morbidelli to a third place finished at 1995 Australian Grand Prix at Adelaide. The Footwork FA16 took Footwork (Arrows) to eighth place in the Constructors standings in 1995 with 5 points overall.





Number 2: 1994 Jordan 194
Story: Jordan 194 was designed by Gary Anderson and Andrew Green. The 194 was powered by the 3.5 litre V10 Hart engine. The Jordan 194 took Rubens Barrichello to a third place finished at 1994 Pacific Grand Prix at TI Circuit, Aida. And also a pole postion at Spa-Francorchamps. The Jordan 194 took Jordan to fifth place in the Constructors standings in 1994 with 28 points, and Rubens Barrichello to sixth place in the drivers' championship with 19 points.





Number 1: 1984 Toleman TG184
Story: Toleman TG184 was designed by Rory Byrne and Pat Symonds. The TG184 was powered by the 4-clyinder turbocharged Hart engine which produced approximately 650 bhp. The Toleman TG184 took Ayrton Senna to two third place finished at Brands Hatch and Estoril. And also a second place finished at Monaco. The Toleman TG184 took Toleman to seventh place in the Constructors standings in 1984 with 16 points, and Ayrton Senna to ninth place in the drivers' championship with 13 points. To give the best F1 Hart powered race car in this list.
