It's Official: Caterham signs Kobayashi, Ericsson for 2014 Formula 1 season

Yesterday (21/1/14) it was announce that Caterham has signed grand prix returnee Kamui Kobayashi and GP2 graduate Marcus Ericsson for the 2014 Formula 1 season. Meaning, Kobayashi and Ericsson replace both Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic this season at Caterham.

The deal brings Kobayashi back into F1 after a season out and driving with Ferrari's GT programme in the World Endurance Championship. While, Ericsson moves up to F1 after four years in GP2. Becoming the first Swede driver to start a grand prix since Stefan Johansson back in 1991.

Not a surprise with the news in my opinion that both Kobayashi and Ericsson will be signed. Its been rumours since Brazil that Ericsson will race with the team and since Christmas that Kobayashi will be signed to the team. But, personally I would have picked Kobayashi, but would have kept kept Giedo van der Garde for another season at Caterham at least for another season in my opinion as he was a fast driver.

It was also announce yesterday that 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 series champion Robin Frijns will join Alexander Rossi in Caterham's Formula 1 test and reserve driver line-up in 2014. While, Alexander Rossi and Rio Haryanto will be part of Caterham's GP2 line up this season at Caterham Racing.

With Caterham's announcement completes the 2014 F1 grid ahead of the start of winter testing at Jerez next Tuesday.

End of blog for now. New post soon. Bye.
