Top Eight Mauro Forghieri race cars, Mauro Forghieri 1935-2022

With recent news that Formula One car designer Mauro Forghieri (13 January 1935 – 2 November 2022) who passed away on last Wednesday. Forghieri worked for a number of teams in his 30 year period in Formula 1, includes Ferrari and Lamborghini. Winning many races and winning a drivers' and constructors' title in his time in F1.

So this post is the Mauro Forghieri race cars (does include other race car that did race outside of Formula 1), starting with Number 8:

Number 8: 1962-63 Ferrari 250 GTO
Story:
Ferrari 250 GTO designed by Mauro Forghieri, Giotto Bizzarrini and Sergio Scaglietti. The Ferrari 250 GTO uses a Ferrari 3 litre V12 engine and produces over 300bhp. The Ferrari 250 GTO won the over 2000cc class of the FIA's International Championship for GT Manufacturers in 1962, 1963, and 1964, and took two second place finishes at Le Mans in 1962 and 1963.



Number 7: 1964 Ferrari 275 P
Story:
Ferrari 275 P was designed by Mauro Forghieri, the Ferrari 275 P uses a Ferrari 3.2 litre V12 engine and produces over 315bhp. Ferrari 275 P took the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans win with Jean Guichet and Nino Vaccarella.

Number 6: 1963-66 Ferrai 250 LM
Story
: 1963-66 Ferrai 250 LM was designed by Mauro Forghieri, the 1963-66 Ferrai 250 LM uses a Ferrari 3.2 litre V12 engine and produces over 320bhp. Ferrari 250 LM took the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans win with Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt the last Ferrari outright victory at Le Mans.



Number 5: 1970-75 Ferrari 312B
Story:
The Ferrari 312T (also named as Ferrari 312B, Ferrari 312B3, and 312B3-74) was designed by Mauro Forghieri, the Ferrari 312T was powered by the 3 litre Ferrari Flat-12 engine. The Ferrari 312T took 10 victories between 1970 and 1975, five for Jacky Ickx, one win for Mario Andretti, two wins for Niki Lauda, two wins for Clay Regazzoni. Which took, Ferrari to second the F1 Constructors' standings in both 1970 and 1974, almost took championship wins for Ickx (in 1970) and for Regazzoni and Lauda (in 1974).





Number 4: 1964-65 Ferrari 158
Story:
The Ferrari 158 was designed by Mauro Forghieri, the Ferrari 158 was powered by the 1.5 litre V8 Ferrari engine. Which, took the Ferrari 158 to two wins inbetween 1964 and 65, all two wins for John Surtees. Which took, John Surtees to the 1964 F1 Drivers' Title, becoming the only person to have won World Championships on both two and four wheels, and Ferrari to the Constructors' Championships in 1964.



Number 3: 1981-4 Ferrari 126 C
Story:
Ferrari 126 C (also named as Ferrari 126CK, Ferrari 126C2, Ferrari 126C3, and Ferrari 126C4) was the team's first attempt at a turbo engined Formula 1 car, it was designed by Mauro Forghieri and Harvey Postlethwaite. The Ferrari 126 C was powered by the Ferrari 1.5 litre turbocharged V6 engine, which produces over 550 bhp at the start of the 1981 season till the end at 1984 season, when it produced about 800 bhp in qualifying, detuned to around 650 bhp for race spec. Ferrari 126 C took ten wins between 1981 till 1984. Gilles Villeneuve, Didier Pironi and Patrick Tambay took two each, three for René Arnoux, and one for Michele Alboreto. Which took, Ferrari to the F1 Constructors' titles in both 1982 and 1983.



Number 2: 1963-64 Ferrari 250 P
Story:
Ferrari 250 P was designed by Mauro Forghieri, the Ferrari 250 P uses a Ferrari 3 litre V12 engine and produces over 310bhp. Ferrari 250 P took the 1963 Sebring 12 Hours win with John Surtees and Ludovico Scarfiotti, took the Nurburgring 1000 km win with John Surtees and Willy Mairesse; took the 1963 24 Hours of Le Mans win with Ludovico Scarfiotti and Lorenzo Bandini, and the Sebring 12 Hours win with Mike Parkes and Umberto Maglioli.



Number 1: 1975-80 Ferrari 312T
Story:
Possibly the most dominating Ferrari Formula One race car ever in Ferrari's history. The Ferrari 312T (also named as Ferrari 312T2, Ferrari 312T3, Ferrari 312T4, and Ferrari 312T5) was designed by Mauro Forghieri, the Ferrari 312T was powered by the 3 litre Ferrari Flat-12 engine. The Ferrari 312T took 27 victories between 1975 and 1980, four for Gilles Villeneuve, and three wins for Jody Scheckter, five wins for Carlos Reutemann, thirteen wins for Niki Lauda, two wins for Clay Regazzoni. Four Constructors' Championships in 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1979. And finally three Drivers' Championships for Niki Lauda in 1975 and 1977, and for Jody Scheckter in 1979.
