Pierre Gasly replaces Daniil Kvyat at Scuderia Toro Rosso

Pierre Gasly will make his Formula 1 debut at this weekend's Malaysia Grand Prix after Toro Rosso confirmed yesterday (26/9/15) that he will partner Carlos Sainz Jr. in place of Daniil Kvyat at the team, who remains part of Red Bull's programme.

Gasly who have spent time as Red Bull Racing's reserve driver since 2015, currently sits second position in the Super Formula Championship; will make the step up and make his debut Formula 1 with Toro Rosso, replacing Kvyat, who has occupied the seat since the Spanish Grand Prix last season.

Kvyat is poised to return for the United States Grand Prix, as it clashes with the Super Formula finale at Suzuka, with Gasly holding a strong chance of taking the title in the series.

Toro Rosso has stressed that Kvyat remains part of the Red Bull family, but that he has been stood down for the next races off the back of a disappointing campaign, in which he has scored just four points.

Overall, happy for Pierre Gasly getting his Grand Prix debut this weekend. Should have stepped up with the team this season after winning GP2 Champion (now called F2) last season. My solid guess his been place at Toro Rosso for the rest of the season, is a try out for one of the drive's at Toro Rossso for 2016.

As for Daniil Kvyat being dropped, my guess is for scoring only four points and sitting nineteenth place in the drivers standings so far this season compared to his Carlos Sainz Jr. who sits ninth in the drivers standings and scored forty-eight points might be reason he has been dropped for now. My solid guess is that Kvyat will be retained at Toro Rosso for another season at least going into 2018 as there is no Red Bull Junior drivers to promote for now and Sainz Jr. is off to Renault next season.

Anyway, good luck for Pierre Gasly for this weekend at Toro Rosso.
