Climbkhana Review

For the last few years', Ken Block always do a Gymkhana video, with Gymkhana Nine coming out twelve months ago. This years video is not a Gymkhana video its a Climbkhana video, Ken Block has used the famous Pikes Peak Hillclimb course for the latest video called: "TOYO TIRES | Ken Block’s Climbkhana: Pikes Peak Featuring the Hoonicorn V2" (video below).

And just like Gymkhana Seven, Ken Block uses a 1965 Ford Mustang now dubbed as the "Hoonicorn RTR V2" using a 6.7 litre V8 twin-turbo Rouse Ford engine that now produces 1400 bhp. Enjoy the video below.

TOYO TIRES | Ken Block’s Climbkhana: Pikes Peak Featuring the Hoonicorn V2

What my thoughts about the video. I thought it was still edited well, the multiple use of Go-Pro cameras' inside and outside on the Hoonicorn. Also, I enjoyed Ken was doing multiple doughnuts with the Hoonicorn dangling precariously under a helicopter.

Overall I liked the video, a nice change of scenery compared to last few years' of Gymkhanas, so far over four million views on YouTube since Monday , its another 80 million views to catch up with Gymkhana Five record. Overall, another very cool video from Ken Block.

Pierre Gasly replaces Daniil Kvyat at Scuderia Toro Rosso

Pierre Gasly will make his Formula 1 debut at this weekend's Malaysia Grand Prix after Toro Rosso confirmed yesterday (26/9/15) that he will partner Carlos Sainz Jr. in place of Daniil Kvyat at the team, who remains part of Red Bull's programme.

Gasly who have spent time as Red Bull Racing's reserve driver since 2015, currently sits second position in the Super Formula Championship; will make the step up and make his debut Formula 1 with Toro Rosso, replacing Kvyat, who has occupied the seat since the Spanish Grand Prix last season.

Kvyat is poised to return for the United States Grand Prix, as it clashes with the Super Formula finale at Suzuka, with Gasly holding a strong chance of taking the title in the series.

Toro Rosso has stressed that Kvyat remains part of the Red Bull family, but that he has been stood down for the next races off the back of a disappointing campaign, in which he has scored just four points.

Overall, happy for Pierre Gasly getting his Grand Prix debut this weekend. Should have stepped up with the team this season after winning GP2 Champion (now called F2) last season. My solid guess his been place at Toro Rosso for the rest of the season, is a try out for one of the drive's at Toro Rossso for 2016.

As for Daniil Kvyat being dropped, my guess is for scoring only four points and sitting nineteenth place in the drivers standings so far this season compared to his Carlos Sainz Jr. who sits ninth in the drivers standings and scored forty-eight points might be reason he has been dropped for now. My solid guess is that Kvyat will be retained at Toro Rosso for another season at least going into 2018 as there is no Red Bull Junior drivers to promote for now and Sainz Jr. is off to Renault next season.

Anyway, good luck for Pierre Gasly for this weekend at Toro Rosso.

Top Six F1 Engine partnerships that went Wrong

With the recent news that McLaren terminated their engine partnership with Honda after three seasons of no results better than three fifth place finishes.

With McLaren off to Renault in 2018. So this means top Six Formula 1 Engine partnership that went Wrong. With the only rules any Formula 1 engine deal that didn't survived over a season, that the team didn't win or scored a podium in that season.

Starting with Number 6:

Number 6: 1992 Jordan and Yamaha (Jordan 192)
Story:
After a successful debut season in 1991 with 191. Jordan team had lost their supply of Ford engines due to large debts. Instead Jordan signed a contract to run the Yamaha 3.5L V12, which was supplied for free. One of the main problems for was that the team had already begun work on the 192 in the expectation that it would continue to run the Ford V8 engine rather than a much larger V12 Yamaha.

Compared to their successful debut season, 1992 was a total nightmare for Jordan. The team struggled with reliability issues from the Yamaha V12 engine, both Stefano Modena and Maurício Gugelmin failed to finish in nineteen Grand Prixs', while Stefano Modena did not qualified in four of those. In the end Jordan 192 failed to score a point until the final race of the season in Australia, when Modena finished in sixth place. Overall, the Jordan 192 give Jordan only one point and eleventh place in the constructors standings in 1992. Next season, Jordan use Hart V10 engines, while Yamaha move onto Tyrrell with new V10 engines in 1993.

Number 5: 1990 Lotus and Lamborghini (Lotus 102)
Story:
The Lotus 102 was powered by the 3.5 litre V12 Lamborghini engine in 1990 instead of the 3.5 litre V8 Judd engine they used in 1989. Team Lotus' manager confidently predicted that the team would score 40 championship points in 1990, unfortunately that prediction was wrong. The Lotus 102 managed to score just 3 points in 1990, with best results from Derek Warwick with a fifth place finished at the Hungaroring, to give Lotus a eighth place finish in the constructors' championship in 1990. Next season, Lotus use Judd V8 engines for 1991.

Number 4: 1987 Ligier, Alfa Romeo and Megatron (Ligier JS29)
Story:
After Renault pulled out of F1 at the end of 1986 season. Ligier had to find new engine deal, for 1987 F1 season Ligier was going to use the new Alfa Romeo 1.5 litre straight 4 turbo engine. However, during pre-season testing lead driver René Arnoux publicly gave his thoughts on the engine, comparing it to used food which gave Alfa's parent company Fiat the excuse they had been looking for to pull out of Formula 1.

As a result of losing their engine supply so close to the start of the season, Ligier had to come up with an engine in order to compete. The team managed to get a supply of Megatron (BMW) Straight 4 turbo engines for the season. And with the lateness of the change of engines, the car had to be redesign, most notably its rear suspension as tests showed that the Megatron was causing bad vibrations which was causing suspension failures throughout the season and also the team had limited amount of the Megatron engines. Ligier JS29 only managed to score just one point in 1987, with best results from René Arnoux with a sixth place finished at Spa, to give Ligier  eleventh place finish in the constructors' championship in 1987. Next season, Ligier use 3.5. litre V8 Judd engines for 1988.

Number 3: 1983 Spirit Racing and Honda (Spirit 201)
Story:
With Honda returning to Formula 1 in 1983 with their new 1.5 litre V6 Honda turbo engine. Honda were anxious to keep a low profile with the new engine, instead of teaming up with established Formula 1 team. Honda teamed up with a Formula 2 team called Spirit Racing, the team didn't debut until mid-July at the British Grand Prix with the Spirit 201.

However, the relationship continued only for five more Grand Prixs' with the best result of seventh place at the Dutch Grand Prix with Stefan Johansson. Due to the car itself being too slow and undeveloped and not the engine this time, Honda moved to established team Williams in 1984, while Spirit Racing used Hart 1.5 litre straight 4 turbo engines for 1984 season.

Number 2: 1991 Arrows and Porsche (Footwork FA12)
Story:
At the end of the 1990 F1 season, Arrows was renamed as Footwork, and had also secured a deal to run 3.5 litre V12 Porsche engines in 1991, replacing the 3.5 litre V8 Ford engines had in 1990. However, the 3.5 litre V12 Porsche engines in the FA12 was too large, heavy, underpowered and unreliable. By Round seven at the French Grand Prix in July, the Arrows team had decided to abandon the disastrous Porsche V12 engines in favour of a return to Ford V8 engines. With the Arrows Porsche relationship resulting in five times they retired in the races while seven times they did not qualify for the races.

Number 1: 1990 Coloni and Subaru (Coloni C3B)
Story:
At the end of the 1990 F1 season, Coloni had secured a deal to run 3.5 litre Flat-12 Subaru engines for 1990 replacing the 3.5 litre V8 Ford engines had in 1989. However, the 3.5 litre Flat-12 Subaru engines in the Coloni C3B was too large, heavy, underpowered and unreliable. By Round nine at the German Grand Prix in late July, the Subaru and Coloni's relationship broke down; following some political wrangling between the two companies, Subaru pulled out altogether, with Coloni team returning to Ford V8 engines resulting in five times they retired in the races while seven times they did not qualify for the races. With the Coloni Subaru relationship resulting in eight did not pre qualifying for poor old Bertrand Gachot.

To give the Coloni and Subaru deal the worse F1 Engine partnerships that went Wrong!

Confirmed: Force India retains Sergio Pérez till 2018

It was confirmed yesterday before the Singapore Grand Prix (17/9/17) that Force India will retain Sergio Pérez for next season alongside Esteban Ocon.

Pérez made the switch to the team in 2014 after a challenging 2013 season at McLaren, which followed on from an initial two-year spell at Sauber.

Overall, a very good decision from Force India to keep Sergio Pérez for next season. There were some rumours he could have gone to either Williams or Renault next season. But, for Sergio Pérez is still better the devil you know and stay at Force India for another season alongside Esteban Ocon, which makes Force India line-up a very strong one going into 2018.

2017 Singapore Grand Prix Review

Review of the fourteenth round of the 2017 F1 season at Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore for Formula 1's only night-time street race of the season, for the Singapore Grand Prix.

With Sebastian Vettel on pole for Sunday's race, you would have thought it will be a Ferrari win. Not even until the first corner of the first lap in the race when Vettel bogged down from the start slightly, as was Max Verstappen who started on the front row too. While Kimi Räikkönen who had a rocket of a start from fourth place.

Vettel moved over on Verstappen as Räikkönen dived up the inside, and the trio bunched together, with Verstappen and Räikkönen colliding. Räikkönen was pitched into Vettel, and continued out of control towards the first turn, where he collected Verstappen once more, who in turn hit Fernando Alonso. In my opinion it was a racing incident for all three parties.

Vettel, meanwhile, kept the lead, but his car had sustained terminal damage, with a substantial hole in the left hand side of his car, which lead to Vettel lost control on the small kink between turns three and four, tagging the wall and causing further damage to the front end retiring instantly, giving the lead to Lewis Hamilton who stayed out of trouble from the start. The safety car was deployed to clean out the carnage from the start.

When the safety car went in, Hamilton took the advantage in a wet to dry Singapore Grand Prix; Comfortably lead the race throughout going into dry conditions despite two more safety car appeared to conclude with a race win in this seasons Singapore Grand Prix for Hamilton's seventh race win of the season.

While, Daniel Ricciardo finished second place in the Red Bull, Ricciardo was five seconds behind Hamilton at the end.

Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas finished in third place in the other Mercedes to complete the podium, Bottas was nine seconds behind Hamilton at the end of the fifty-eight lap race.

Lewis Hamilton still leads the Drivers' Championship from Sebastian Vettel, but the gap is now improved from three points to twenty-eight points in the standings with six races to go. While, Valtteri Bottas is third in the standings is now forty-one points from Monza to now fifty-one points behind Hamilton after his third place finish at Singapore.

While Mercedes still leads F1 Constructors' Standings, the gap is now gained from sixty-one points to one hundred and two points for Ferrari who are second in the Constructors' Standings with six races to go.

Highlights of the race below, enjoy.

Confirmed: Carlos Sainz Jr. joins Renault Sport F1 Team for 2018 season on a year deal

It was confirmed on yesterday, before the start of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend (15/9/17), that Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz, Jr. will race with Renault Sport F1 Team as their second driver for 2018 season on a one year deal, alongside Nico Hülkenberg, completing the manufacturer's driver line-up.

Sainz, Jr. made his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso in 2015. Despite signed to Toro Rosso till the end of 2018. However, an agreement has now been reached, which will see Sainz, Jr. compete for Renault in 2018, as part of a loan arrangement with Red Bull.

The move brings to an end to Jolyon Palmer's time at Renault as Sainz, Jr. replaces Palmer in Renault's line-up for next season.

In my opinion, this is not a big surprise this news happen. It has been strongly rumoured since the Italian Grand Prix that Sainz, Jr. has signed a deal with Renault. My guess Red Bull wanted Sainz, Jr. to be a competitive car after Toro Rosso signed a deal with Honda next season and because its a loan deal from Red Bull he could drive for Red Bull in 2019 if Daniel Ricciardo or Max Verstappen leaves the team.

Its great news for the Renault team as they have got a talented Grand Prix driver.

Things are looking up for the Renault team in 2018.

Confirmed: Toro Rosso using Honda Power-Units till 2020

It has been announced yesterday, before the start of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend (15/9/17); Toro Rosso has signed a new engine partnership with Honda to supply the team their power-units from the start of the 2018 F1 season on a three year deal in the wake of McLaren severing its ties with Honda.

Honda had intended to enter 2018 F1 season with McLaren and Sauber, but McLaren lost faith and opted to switch to Renault power next season, while Sauber cancelled its plans and renewed a new deal with Ferrari.

Toro Rosso emerged as a viable option for Honda since the Hungarian Grand Prix, which the deal included free power-units to Toro Rosso saving the team millions for next three seasons, also allowing sister team Red Bull to evaluate the Japanese power plants going into 2019 season when their Renault deal is up to renewal.

It marks the fourth year in a row that Toro Rosso will change its engine partner between seasons, having moved from Renault, to Ferrari, back to Renault, and now Honda.

In my opinion, this is no major surprise that the news has happen yesterday. As this has been rumoured for the past weeks that Toro Rosso will swap over to Honda power units for 2018 season.

This is a very good deal for Toro Rosso, as I believe that the Honda power units will cost nothing as the team will be the default works team for next season.

However, the current Honda power units are under-powered and unreliable if it does continue going into 2018 that needs to be improve going into next season to allow Toro Rosso to challenge the midfield teams.

A new challenge ahead for Toro Rosso going into 2018.

It's Official: McLaren using Renault Power-Units till 2020

It has been announced yesterday, before the start of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend (15/9/17); McLaren has signed a new engine partnership with Renault to supply the team their power-units from the start of the 2018 F1 season on a three year deal.

McLaren reunited with Honda for 2015 but the partnership has been characterised by a lack of reliability and performance, leading to the two parties agreeing to separate at the end of 2017 F1 season.

Following weeks of speculation, and shortly after McLaren announcing their split from Honda early in the day, McLaren outlined its new deal with Renault, covering till 2020.

Meanwhile, McLaren has yet to confirm whether Fernando Alonso will remain with the team in 2018, while Stoffel Vandoorne remains with the team next season.

In my opinion, this is no major surprise that the news has happen yesterday. As this has been rumoured for the past weeks that McLaren will swap over to Renault power units for 2018 season.

This is a very good deal for McLaren, as I believe that the Renault power-units will be more powerful and reliable.

The current Honda power-units have been under-powered and unreliable for the last three seasons has cost Honda with its relationship with McLaren.

A new challenge ahead for McLaren going into 2018.

Confirmed: Mercedes retains Valtteri Bottas for 2018

It was confirmed this lunch-time (13/9/17) that Mercedes will retain Valtteri Bottas for the 2018 Formula 1 season alongside Lewis Hamilton.

Bottas joined the team from Williams in January as a replacement for Current F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg and claimed victories in Russia and Austria.

He currently holds third place in the Drivers' standings, forty-one points behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton with seven races to go.

Overall, a very good decision from Mercedes to keep Valtteri Bottas for another season. An impressive first season at Mercedes, although next season he might have a better change to win the Drivers' Championship next season.

Predicting who goes where in F1 2018

With the Singapore Grand Prix is coming up this weekend. With recent news from the last month that Sebastian Vettel staying at Ferrari till 2020 and Kimi Räikkönen staying at Ferrari for another season. The main question I am writing on this blog is who's goes where in 2018? with a few predictions of my own.

With Ferrari, Red Bull and Haas are retaining their drivers for 2018. While the other seven teams have either one or no drivers signed yet, so far there is still ten drives available, so lets start with the first team Mercedes.

Mercedes will keep Lewis Hamilton for another season. The second seat is not yet confirmed, it will be properly more than likely that Valtteri Bottas will retain him for another season.

Next is McLaren will keep Stoffel Vandoorne for another season. The second seat is the question either Fernando Alonso will be retain or leave, it will depend on what power-unit underneath the McLaren next season. Its' more than likely McLaren will use Renault power-units next season meaning a more than likely change that Alonso will be retain for another season.

Next is Force India, they will keep both Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez for another season, despite both drivers collided with each other from the last few races.

At Williams, they will more than likely they will retain both Felipe Massa and Lance Stroll for another season in a strong debut season from Stroll.

At Sauber, will more than likely they will retain Marcus Ericsson for another season. With the recnt news that Sauber will be using 2018 Ferrari spec Power-Units (badged as Alfa Romeo) next season, Pascal Wehrlein will more than likely leave the team and will be replaced by F2 Championship leader and Ferrari Academy driver Charles Leclerc will take his place

Then, there's Renault, Renault will more than likely they will retain Nico Hülkenberg for another season. With uncertainty if Jolyon Palmer remains at Renault next season, don't be surprise that Carlos Sainz Jr. joins the team with sponsorship from Spain.

Finally Toro Rosso, they will keep Daniil Kvyat for another season at least. The second seat will more than likely go to Red Bull Junior driver and current GP2 Champion (now called F2) Pierre Gasly.

Those are just a few of my predictions who will go were in 2018. Some may not happen and some of that will be confirmed in the months to come.
