Review of Round One of the 2017 World Rallycross Championship season was the World RX of Barcelona, at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on the outskirts of Barcalona, Spain.
In the four Heats, those were won by current World Rallycross Champion Mattias Ekström, Johan Kristoffersson, Andreas Bakkerud, and Toomas Heikkinen.
In the first semi-final that was won by Volkswagen RX Sweden driver Johan Kristoffersson in his Volkswagen Polo GTi. Second was World RX Team Austria driver Timo Scheider in his Ford Fiesta ST, he was three seconds behind Kristoffersson in the end. While, third was Volkswagen RX Sweden driver Petter Solberg in his Volkswagen Polo GTi, he was five seconds behind Kristoffersson in the end.
In the second semi-final that was won by EKS RX driver and current World Rallycross Champion Mattias Ekström in his Audi S1. Second was Hoonigan Racing Division driver Andreas Bakkerud in his Ford Focus RS, he was twelve tenths of a second behind Ekström in the end. While, third was Team Peugeot-Hansen driver Timmy Hansen in his Peugeot 208, he was seventeen tenths of a second behind Ekström in the end.
In the final race, EKS RX driver and current World Rallycross Champion Mattias Ekström took the race win in his Audi S1. Second was World RX Team Austria driver Timo Scheider in his Ford Fiesta ST, he was four tenths of a second behind Ekström in the end. While third was Hoonigan Racing Division driver Andreas Bakkerud in his Ford Focus RS, he was two seconds behind Ekström in the end.
Next stop World RX of Portugal at Pista Automóvel de Montalegre for Round Two of the 2017 World Rallycross Championship season in three weeks time.
