2016 Petit Le Mans Review

Review of Round Twelve and final round of the 2016 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the final round of the North American Endurance Championship at Road Atlanta, Braselton, Georgia for the annual Petit Le Mans.

Michael Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian won the race overall and Prototype class too of Oswaldo Negri, Jr., John Pew and Olivier Pla in their Ligier JS P2, Honda HR35TT 3.5 L V6 Turbo. While, Tequila Patrón ESM finished second place in their Ligier JS P2, Honda HR35TT 3.5 L V6 Turbo, the team of Pipo Derani, Scott Sharp and Johannes van Overbeek; they were three and half seconds behind the leaders. Meanwhile, Wayne Taylor Racing finished third place in their Coyote Corvette, Chevrolet 5.5L V8, the team of Max Angelelli, Jordan Taylor and Ricky Taylor; they were twelve seconds behind the leaders.

In Prototype Challenge Class (all teams using Oreca FLM09 race car), PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports team won Prototype Challenge Class and finished in sixth place overall; with the drivers of Robert Alon, Tom Kimber-Smith and José Gutiérrez; they were eight laps behind the leaders.

In GT Le Mans Class, Risi Competizione team won GT Le Mans Class and finished in ninth place overall in their Ferrari 488 GTE; with the drivers of Giancarlo Fisichella, Toni Vilander and James Calado; they were fourteen laps behind the leaders.

In GT Daytona Class, Riley Motorsports team won GT Daytona Class and finished in seventeenth place overall in their Dodge Viper GT3-R; with the drivers of Jeroen Bleekemolen, Ben Keating and Marc Miller; they were twenty-seven laps behind the leaders.


And so who are this years champions as its the final round of the season. In Prototype Class, Dane Cameron and Eric Curran won the drivers championship, while Action Express Racing took the teams championship; while Chevrolet took the Engine manufacturers championship.

In Prototype Challenge Class, Alex Popow and Renger van der Zande won the drivers championship, while Starworks Motorsport took the teams championship.

In GT Le Mans Class, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner won the drivers championship, while Corvette Racing took the teams championship; while Chevrolet took the Manufacturers championship.

In GT Daytona Class, Alessandro Balzan and Christina Nielsen won the drivers championship, while Scuderia Corsa took the teams championship; while Audi took the Manufacturers championship.
