2016 Australian MotoGP Review, Rider News

Review of round sixteen of the 2016 MotoGP season at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circult, Phillip Island, south-southeast of Melbourne, for the Australian GP.

In the MotoGP race (V-twin, V4, or Inline-four 1000cc four stroke class), that was won by LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow on his Honda RC213V.



Second place was Movistar Yamaha MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi on his works Yamaha YZR-M1V, he was four seconds behind Crutchlow at the end. While, third was Team Suzuki Ecstar rider Maverick Viñales on his works Suzuki GSX-RR, he was five seconds behind Crutchlow at the end.

In the Moto2 race (Inline-four 600 cc four-stroke class), that race was won by Garage Plus Interwetten rider Thomas Lüthi on the Kalex. Second was Estrella Galicia Marc VDS rider Franco Morbidelli on the Kalex, he was a hundredths of a second behind Lüthi at the end. While, third was Dynavolt Intact GP rider Sandro Cortese on the Kalex, he was half a second behind Lüthi at the end.

While in the Moto3 race (single-cylinder 250 cc four-stroke class), that race was won by Red Bull KTM Ajo rider and current Moto3 champion Brad Binder on the KTM. Second was Leopard Racing rider Andrea Locatelli on the KTM, he was six seconds behind Binder at the end. While, third was Estrella Galicia rider Arón Canet on the Honda, he was nine and half seconds behind Binder at the end.

And finally, it was confirmed on last Tursday's (18/10/16) Aspar Team MotoGP has signed former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham for the 2017 MotoGP seasons.



Abraham made sixty-seven starts in the premier class for his family-run AB Motoracing team between 2011 and 2015, finishing a high of fourteenth in the championship in his rookie season.

Abraham switched to World Superbikes for 2016 but next year will join the MotoGP grid once more to ride a Ducati Desmosedici GP15 for Aspar alongside Álvaro Bautista.

While, current Aspar MotoGP rider Yonny Hernández will return to Moto2 for 2017, after five seasons in MotoGP will now join the AGR Team in the Moto2 class for 2017.



While the other current Aspar MotoGP rider Eugene Laverty will return to World Superbikes for 2017, after two seasons in MotoGP will now join the Milwaukee Aprilia team for 2017 World Superbike Season.
