2018 Spain MotoGP Review, Rider News

Review of the fourth round of the 2018 MotoGP season at Circuito de Jerez, Jerez in southern Spain.

In the MotoGP race (V-twin, V4, or Inline-four 1000cc four stroke class), that was won by Repsol Honda Team rider and current MotoGP champion Marc Márquez on his works Honda RC213V.



Second was Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Johann Zarco on his Yamaha YZR-M1, he was five seconds behind Márquez at the end. While, third was Team Suzuki Ecstar rider Andrea Iannone on his works Suzuki GSX-RR, he was eight seconds behind Márquez at the end.

In the Moto2 race (Inline-four 600 cc four-stroke class), that race was won by Pons HP40 rider Lorenzo Baldassarri on the Kalex. Second was Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Miguel Oliveira on the KTM, he was three seconds behind Baldassarri at the end. While, third was Sky Racing Team VR46 rider Francesco Bagnaia on the Kalex, he was six seconds behind Baldassarri at the end.

While in the Moto3 race (single-cylinder 250 cc four-stroke class), that race was won by Südmetal Schedl GP Racing rider Philipp Öttl on the KTM. Second was Redox PrüstelGP rider Marco Bezzecchi on the KTM, he was six hundredths of a second behind Öttl at the end of the race. While, third was Bester Capital Dubai rider Marcos Ramírez on the KTM to complete a KTM podium whitewash, he was three and half seconds behind Öttl at the end of the race.

It was confirmed on Wednesday (2/5/18), Pol Espargaro has signed a new two-year deal with that will see him continue to compete with the factory Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team in MotoGP in 2019 and 2020.



Espargaro currently sits fourteenth place in the championship, with a best finish of two eleventh place finishes.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed on Thursday (3/5/18), Johann Zarco has been confirmed as KTM's second factory MotoGP rider for the 2019 and 2020 MotoGP seasons on a new two-year deal, leaving no place for Bradley Smith in KTM's works line-up.



Zarco currently sits second place in the championship, with a best finish of two second place finishes.

Finally, It was confirmed on Friday (4/5/18) Moto2 rider Miguel Oliveira will graduate to MotoGP next year with Tech 3, riding a 2019 spec KTM RC16.



Oliveira, who is part of KTM's works Moto2 line up will replace Johann Zarco who is leaving the team at the end of the 2018 MotoGP season.

Oliveira currently sits third place in the Moto2 stanadings, with a best finish of second at this weekends Grand Prix.

No word yet on who is Miguel Oliveira team-mate yet at Tech 3, it would be more than likely be current Tech 3 rider Hafizh Syahrin for 2019.
