It was confirmed yesterday (16/8/21), Petronas Yamaha SRT rider Franco Morbidelli will switch over to the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team for the rest of the season and for the next two-years till the end of 2023 alongside Fabio Quartararo at the team replacing Maverick Viñales.
Morbidelli currently sits seventeenth in the standings with a third at Jerez early in the season, despite being injured throughout the season. Morbidelli finished second in the standings last season with three wins in the premier class.
It was also confirmed yesterday (16/8/21), former Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso will replace Morbidelli at Petronas Yamaha SRT for the rest of the season alongside Valentino Rossi. Dovizioso also sign a one-year deal for 2022 when the team will be re-branded to RNF MotoGP Racing, no word on his team-mate for next season.
Dovizioso finished fourth in the standings last season with a win, Dovizioso took a year away from the premier class this season until the late call up to ride on a factory spec Yamaha for the remainder of the season.
