Confirmed: Fernando Alonso to contest 24 Hours of Daytona

It was confirmed of Thursday (26/10/17) Fernando Alonso will contest next seasons 24 Hours of Daytona in January, with the United Autosports team, the team co-owned and chaired by McLaren chief Zak Brown.

Alonso hinted during the United States Grand Prix weekend that he wanted to compet in the endurance event, and United Autosports announced on Thursday that Alonso will race for the team in January.

It will be Alonso's debut in prototype sports car racing. Alonso will race in Prototype class with a Ligier JS P217 alongside McLaren-backed F3 champion Lando Norris and Phil Hanson.

In my opinion, no surprises with this news has happened, the big advantage for Fernando Alonso there is no Formula 1 racing or testing in January.
