Review of the twelfth round of the 2021 F1 season at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Spa, east of Belgium, for the Belgian Grand Prix.
The race was won in qualifying. Max Verstappen was on pole for Sunday's race. However, the race was heavily affected by heavy rain, which initially saw the start delayed by 25 minutes. After two formation laps behind the safety car, the race start was suspended and red-flagged due to poor conditions and lack of visibility. A nearly three-hour delay followed, before the race was resumed. After a further three laps, the race was red-flagged again. It was not restarted, becoming the shortest race in Formula 1 history and the sixth race to award half-points to give Max Verstappen his sixth race win of the season.
Was that a Grand Prix? NO! there was no racing at all. I understand why the race was delayed because of the poor conditions and lack of visibility, that's not the problem, look at Lando Norris heavy crash going up-hill at Eau Rouge in qualifying, thankfully no other car was near to him when crashing.
I don't understand why the Grand Prix wasn't postponed till Monday lunchtime with dryer conditions and with the next Grand Prix 300 miles away was it not possible to race on Monday, Indy Car and Nascar do it all the time if the races are wet on a Sunday on a oval. That race cheated the fans out, even Current Formula 1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton called it "a farce". Whatever way you call it the sport embarrassed itself with that Grand Prix.
While, George Russell finished in second place in the Williams, Russell was two seconds behind Verstappen at the end.
Meanwhile, Current Formula 1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton finished in third place in the Mercedes to complete the podium, Hamilton was three seconds behind Verstappen at the end of the one lap race.
