Confirmed: Red Bull Racing using Honda Power-Units till 2020

It has been announced yesterday (19/6/18); Red Bull Racing has signed a new engine partnership with Honda to supply the team their power-units from the start of the 2019 F1 season on a two year deal. This means both Red Bull and Toro Rosso teams will be using the same Honda power units for 2019 and 2020; and spells the end of a twelve year partnership between Red Bull and Renault that has yielded 57 Grand Prix wins so far and four world championship doubles between 2010 and 2013.

Toro Rosso emerged as a viable option for Honda this season to use their free power-units from the Japanese brand after McLaren lost faith and opted to switch to Renault power this season, also allowing sister team Red Bull to evaluate the Japanese power plants going into 2019 season when their Renault deal is up to renewal.

So far this season, results from Toro Rosso includes an impressive fourth place finish for Pierre Gasly at the Bahrain Grand Prix in April, and team are currently sits seventh place in the Constructors' Standings with 19 points. It was enough confidence for Red Bull to swap over to Honda power next season.

In my opinion, this is no major surprise that the news has happen yesterday. As this has been rumoured for the past weeks that Toro Rosso will swap over to Honda power units for 2018 season.

This is a very good deal for Red Bull, as I believe that the team will be a works team once more (despite Honda saying they are not, despite they will get around £50 million a season from Honda as the works team) for next season.

However, the current Honda power units are still under-powered and still unreliable this season, going into 2019 that needs to be improve going into next season to allow Red Bull to challenge for both titles next season. Despite some people saying its a not a gamble using Honda power, I would say it is as McLaren's last three seasons results showed with a big team that should have won races.

As for the line-up next season, Red Bull will keep Max Verstappen till the 2020 F1 season, Daniel Ricciardo has not signed a deal yet despite Ricciardo winning two Grand Prixs' this season. With the Honda deal in place for the team, my prediction is this Daniel Ricciardo will leave the team at the end of the season with Pierre Gasly replacing him, he will switch to Ferrari; racing alongside Sebastian Vettel next season in my opinion. This is just a guess and a gut feeling.

A new challenge ahead for Red Bull Racing going into 2019 with Honda power.

The 24 hours of Le Mans race is this weekend. Starts from 2pm (UK time) Saturday finishes on 2pm Sunday. Prediction for the race? it's going to be a battle between both Toyota TS050 Hybrids'.

Qualifying for the race is finished from last night and the Toyota TS050 Hybrid of Fernando Alonso, Kazuki Nakajima and Sébastien Buemi are on pole. The second Toyota TS050 Hybrid of Kamui Kobayashi, José María López, and Mike Conway is on the front row as-well in second place; over two seconds behind the pole sitter. Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa tests 2012 Toro Rosso-livered Red Bull F1 car

Current MotoGP champion Marc Márquez tested a 2012 Toro Rosso-livered Red Bull F1 car at the Red Bull Ring on Tuesday (5/6/2018).

Márquez's maiden outing in the 2012 Red Bull RB8 took place at the Red Bull Ring on Tuesday Morning, and was arranged by Red Bull.

No lap times were released, but Márquez did completed 43 laps behind the wheel and rumoured his lap times was just over six seconds slower than Felipe Massa's pole time from the 2014 Austrian Grand Prix; but Márquez drove a 2012 'show' car on hard Pirelli demonstration tyres with no DRS, using a V8 engine with no KERS.

While, Márquez's MotoGP team-mate Dani Pedrosa tested the RB8 on Tuesday Afternoon at the Red Bull Ring too. No lap times were released either for Pedrosa too.

Not the first time a MotoGP rider have driven a Formula 1 car, includes Valentino Rossi driven for multiple times for Ferrari between 2006 till 2009 at Fiorano, Barcelona, Valencia and Mugello.

Jorge Lorenzo tested a 2014 Merecedes at Silverstone in 2016.

And Max Biaggi for the Midland (Force India) team in 2006 at Silverstone.

So who's next driving a Formula 1 car from the MotoGP world, Maverick Viñales perhaps?

It's Official - Jorge Lorenzo off to Honda for 2019 and 2020 MotoGP seasons, Rider News

It was confirmed on Wednesday (7/6/18), Ducati Team rider Jorge Lorenzo will leave Ducati and move to Honda from 2019 in a two-year deal. Will join Marc Márquez at the works team leaving no place for Dani Pedrosa with them in Honda's works line-up, who will leave the team after thirteen seasons.

Lorenzo entered MotoGP with Yamaha in 2008 and has won 44 races along with his 2010, 2012 and 2015 MotoGP titles, moved to Ducati in 2017 winning only one race this year will end the relationship with the Italian mark.

There have been strong rumours that the former MotoGP champion would return to Yamaha after current Ducati deal on a satellite Yamaha deal firmed up for next year, it is understood that the project, reportedly backed by Petronas and Monster Energy.

Overall, the shock of the season, as no one expect Lorenzo to sign with Honda for 2019, let alone being Marc Márquez team-mate for 2019 would describe to some as a super-team at Honda next season and interesting one too.

Meanwhile in other news, it was also confirmed on Wednesday, Danilo Petrucci has been confirmed as Ducati's second factory MotoGP rider for the 2019 MotoGP season on a one-year deal alongside Andrea Dovizioso.

Petrucci currently sits sixth place in the championship, with a best finish of a second place finish at Le Mans a month ago.

Finally, it was also confirmed on Wednesday, Hafizh Syahrin has signed a new one-year deal with that will see him continue to compete with Tech 3 team in MotoGP for 2019 season alongside Miguel Oliveira.

Syahrin, was a late addition to this year's MotoGP grid, after Jonas Folger's illness and subsequent decision to sit out the 2018 season forced Tech 3 into a scramble to find a replacement at short notice.

Syahrin currently sits sixteenth place in the championship, with a best finish of ninth place in Argentina.

All we know with thirteen rounds to go in this seasons MotoGP championship that 2019 is hotting up.
