Michael Schumacher leaves hospital for recovery at home

Michael Schumacher has left hospital and will now continue his rehabilitation at home, his manager has announced on Tuesday (9/9/14).



The former seven-time Formula 1 World Champion suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident while on a family holiday at the Meribel resort, situated in the French Alps, on December 29.

"Henceforth, Michael's rehabilitation will take place at his home," read the statement issued today by Sabine Kehm, his manager.

"Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months.

"There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead."

Schumacher was initially cared for at Grenoble's University Hospital and underwent two operations before being transferred in June to a rehabilitation clinic in Switzerland. It was at this point it was announced he was no longer in a coma.

"We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire team at CHUV Lausanne for their thorough and competent work," the statement added.

"We ask the privacy of Michael's family continue to be respected, and that speculation about his state of health is avoided."
