Formula E - Beijing ePrix - Round 1 Recap

Review of Round One of the 2014-15 Formula E season held at the Beijing Olympic Green Circuit in Beijing, China. It was the first Championship race of the single-seater, electrically-powered racing car series' inaugural season. The race was won by Audi Sport ABT driver Lucas di Grassi. Second was Andretti Autosport driver Franck Montagny, he was three seconds behind di Grassi in the end.

Meanwhile, third was Virgin Racing driver Sam Bird, after Audi Sport ABT driver Daniel Abt was third on track, but was penalised for exceeding "the maximum permitted electrical power during the race," and was relegated to tenth place, promoting Bird to the final place on the podium. Bird was six and a half seconds behind di Grassi in the end.

But the main action was during the last lap of the race, with Nico Prost leading the race and Nick Heidfeld closed the gap going into the last corner, Heidfied attempted an overtaking manoeuvre on Prost. Prost attempted to block the move, but hit Heidfeld, sending the German driver into a spin. Heidfeld's car then hit the curb sideways, and flipped into the barrier. The collision forced both drivers to retire from the race, and Di Grassi went through to claim victory. Overall, give credit to race car for its touch safety cell. Meanwhile, the track needs more improvement if the series goes back there next season. If this was a Formula 1 race, the race track would've be heavily criticize on safety.

Highlights of the race bellow, enjoy.
