Part three of the Top Twenty Formula 1 Cars of all time. Here is post one from Number twenty to thirteen, and post two from Number twelve to seven. Back to the list, starting with Number Six:
Number 6: 1984-86 McLaren MP4/2
Story: McLaren MP4/2 was designed by John Barnard and had a TAG-Porsche 1.5 litre V6 engine underneath, which produce 850 bhp near the end of 1986 to give the McLaren MP4/2. The McLaren MP4/2 took twenty-two Wins in three seasons in F1, sixteen wins for Alain Prost and six for Niki Lauda. Also, took two back to back F1 Constructors' titles for Mclaren in 1984 and 1985. And three F1 Drivers' Championships in hands of Niki Lauda in 1984 and Alain Prost in 1985 and 1986. The McLaren MP4/2 one of Mclaren's and Formula 1 most successful race car ever.
Number 5: 2004-2005 Ferrari F2004
Story: Ferrari F2004 was designed by Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn. The Ferrari F2004 was powered by the 3 litre V10 Ferrari engine. The Ferrari F2004 won fifteen Grand Prix wins, two wins for Rubens Barrichello and thirteen wins for Michael Schumacher, giving Michael Schumacher his seventh and last F1 Drivers' title and Ferrari the Constructors' championship in 2004.
Number 4: 1991-92 Williams FW14/14B
Story: The FW14/14B was designed by Adrian Newey and Patrick Head. The FW14/14B was powered by a 3.5 litre V10 Renault engine, FW14 in 1991 only managed second in the F1 constructors championship. While in 1992 the updated Williams FW14B was the most technically sophisticated car on the grid. The FW14B featured a semi automatic gearbox, active suspension, traction control and for a brief period anti-lock brakes which took Williams fifteen poles, ten Grand Prix wins that season and a F1 constructors championship as-well. Which, Riccardo Patrese took a pole and a grand prix win. While, Nigel Mansell took fourteen poles and nine Grand Prix wins to concluded with the 1992 F1 drivers' championship for Nigel Mansell and his only one as-well. Overall, the Williams FW14/14B took seventeen victories between 1991 and 1992, three wins for Riccardo Patrese and fourteen wins for Nigel Mansell.
Number 3: 2014 Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid
Story: Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid was designed by Aldo Costa. The Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid was powered by the all new Mercedes 1.6 litre turbo hybrid power-unit. The Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid won sixteen Grand Prix wins, which includes eleven one–two finishes, five wins for Nico Rosberg and thirteen wins for Lewis Hamilton, giving Lewis Hamilton his second F1 Drivers' title and Mercedes first Constructors' title as a constructor to win the Constructors' championship in 2014. The Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid is one of the most dominant race cars in the history of Formula One.
Number 2: 1975-80 Ferrari 312T
Story: Possibly the most dominating Ferrari Formula One race car ever in Ferrari's history. The Ferrari 312T (also named as Ferrari 312T2, Ferrari 312T3, Ferrari 312T4, and Ferrari 312T5) was designed by Mauro Forghieri, the Ferrari 312T was powered by the 3 litre Ferrari Flat-12 engine. The Ferrari 312T took 27 victories between 1975 and 1980, four for Gilles Villeneuve, and three wins for Jody Scheckter, five wins for Carlos Reutemann, thirteen wins for Niki Lauda, two wins for Clay Regazzoni. Four Constructors' Championships in 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1979. And finally three Drivers' Championships for Niki Lauda in 1975 and 1977, and for Jody Scheckter in 1979.
Number 1: 1988 McLaren MP4/4
Story: The McLaren MP4/4 will be possibly the best McLaren car that have been created from the team and possibly the most dominant racing car in Formula 1 history. The McLaren MP4/4 was design by both Steve Nichols and Gordon Murray. The McLaren MP4/4 has the famous Honda 1.5 litre V6 turbo engine underneath the McLaren MP4/4, the last of the turbos in Formula 1 (until 2014) which produce over 1000 bhp in qualifying and around 790 bhp in race pace. Which, McLaren took fifteen victories from sixteen races in 1988, eight for Ayrton Senna and seven for Alain Prost, including ten 1-2 finishes, fifteen Poles which Senna took thirteen poles that season. Finally gives McLaren the Constructors Championship in 1998 and Ayrton Senna to the Drivers Championship in 1988 as-well.
