Alfa Romeo to leave Forrmula 1 at end of 2023 season
It was confirmed yesterday on the eve of the Belgian Grand Prix (26/8/22), Alfa Romeo is to leave Formula 1 at the end of 2023, which means it will end its partnership with Sauber after the end of next season, returning the Sauber name in Formula 1 for 2024 season.
The Italian manufacturer joined forces with Sauber in 2018 as a title sponsor, before the partnership was extended the following year in a deal that saw the team renamed to Alfa Romeo.
On Friday, Audi announced that it would enter the sport in 2026 as a Power Unit supplier.
Although it has not yet been confirmed, it is widely expected that it will acquire a majority share in Sauber (around 75% before 2026).
In a statement released hours after Audi’s confirmation, Alfa Romeo declared that it would part ways with Sauber by the end of the 2023 campaign.
Overall, no surprises there too, its been heavily rumoured for a while now that Audi will buy 75% of Sauber before 2026, so why have a Fiat brand sponsoring an 75% VW own team, makes no scene. Unless Alfa buys the team outright, I don't see that happening.
Bye Bye Alfa Romeo once again.

It's Official - Audi to enter Formula 1 as a Power Unit supplier from 2026 onwards
It was confirmed on the eve of the Belgian Grand Prix (26/8/22), Audi will enter the sport as a Power Unit supplier from the 2026 Formula 1 season.
It marks the first time that Audi (or VW) has ventured into F1.
The Power Unit will be completely constructed in-house at the Competence Center Motorsport in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany.
New engine regulations will come into play for 2026 which includes sustainably fuels and no ERS-H forthcoming, which was believed to be the final step for the Volkswagen Group to proceed with its push into F1.
As well as Audi, it is expected that the VW group will enter the 2026 campaign with sister brand Porsche, who is set to enter an agreement to power both Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri.
It is expected that it will enter a partnership with Sauber buying 75% of the team before 2026, who currently runs under the Alfa Romeo name.
Overall, no surprises here, its been heavily rumoured that the German manufacturer has been in talks to join the grid for many years (since 2014), however its interest never fully materialised into a solid entry until now.
A new era for Audi.

Daniel Ricciardo leaves McLaren at end of season, what's next for Ricciardo?
It was confirmed on Wednesday (24/8/22), Daniel Ricciardo will leave McLaren at the end of the season, not completing his three deal he signed in 2020.
His stint at the team was marred by underwhelming performances, and he was often outpaced by team-mate Lando Norris, despite winning last seasons Italian Grand Prix.
Ricciardo currently sits twelfth in the drivers standings, with best finish of sixth at his home Grand Prix at Melbourne back in April.
Oscar Piastri is set to replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren for 2023.
Overall, not the biggest surprise due to Ricciardo under-performing for the last two last two seasons and expressly this season with team-mate Lando Norris out performing him massively. It has cost McLaren at lot of money to terminate his contract early.
So what's next for Ricciardo? a return to Alpine and could happen if they can't retain Piastri for 2023, perhaps. Could Williams or Haas could be options.
Another option could take a year off in 2023 and return to Formula 1 in 2024 as Ricciardo is currently 33 and he will be 34 in 2024 still young enough to challange championships. Drivers have won championships after taking time away from Formula 1 the likes of Niki Lauda (1984 with McLaren after two seasons off) and Alain Prost (1993 with Williams after a season off) to name a few.
Whatever the outcome for 2023, interesting times ahead for Daniel Ricciardo and for Formula 1.

Half Term Review of F1 Season so far and My top Formula 1 drivers of 2022 so far
The half term review of Formula 1 season so far, with the next race is in two weeks time. Just like last year, I will say one sentence that will be positive with each team. And one sentence that will be negative for each team. Also, I will include with this post my Top 10 Formula 1 drivers of 2022 so far below. Starting with Mercedes:
Mercedes:
+ Two second place finished from Sir Lewis Hamilton at Paul Ricard and Hunganoring.
- The F1 W13 has been the third fastest car on the grid, no Grand Prix wins so far; second in the Constructor's standings is a must for Mercedes.
Red Bull:
+ Leading both the Drivers' and Constructors Championships with current F1 World Champion Max Verstappen with the best car and driver on the grid from the RB18, includes eight wins for Verstappen and Sergio Pérez won at Monaco too.
-Double DNF in Bahain, apart from that a great season from Red Bull.
Ferrari
+ Some great race performances from both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, Jr., which includes three Grand Prix wins for Leclerc at Bahrain, Melbourne and the Red Bull Ring and Sainz, Jr. won at Silverstone; only 163 points at this stage last season, 334 points this season at this stage a much better improvement from Ferrari.
- The team missed out on wins for Leclerc at Barcalona (Turbo), Monaco (tyre strategy), Baku (Turbo), Silverstone (not pitting for soft tyres late on), Paul Ricard (spun out) and Hunganoring (pitting for wrong tyres); that cost Ferrari the lead of the Constructor's standings and Charles Leclerc the lead of the Drivers' Standings, Leclerc is now 80 points behind Verstappen in the standings'.
McLaren:
+ Some great race performances from Lando Norris, which include a third place finish for Norris at Imola.
-163 points at this stage last season, only 95 points this season at this stage, not great from McLaren and the team currently sits fifth in the Constructor's standings a long way off the top three; Daniel Ricciardo performances haven't been impressive this season with the car not suiting him once again, 19 points compare to Norris's 76 points so far this season best result of sixth place at Melbourne looking to be replace by Oscar Piastri foe 2023, fourth in the Constructor's standings is still possible this season.
Alpine:
+ Fourth in the Constructor's standings currently, two fifth place finishes each for Fernando Alonso at Silverstone, and for Esteban Ocon at the Red Bull Ring.
- Alonso could have finish on the podium at Montreal, keeping fourth in the Constructor's standings is a must for Alpine; apart from that the team have let themselves down on not renewing Alonso for 2023 (off to Aston Martin) and whats happening with Oscar Piastri (could be going to McLaren in 2023).
Scuderia AlphaTauri:
+ Some great race performances from Pierre Gasly, which include a fifth place finish for Gasly at Baku.
- 68 points at this stage last season, only 27 points this season at this stage, not great from AlphaTauri and the team currently sits eighth in the Constructor's standings, sixth in the Constructor's has to be the target for AlphaTauri going into the second half of the season.
Aston Martin:
+ Sixth place finish for Sebastian Vettel at Baku.
- AMR22 has been poor in qualifying which effect their race results, resulting currently sitting ninth in the Constructors' Standings with 20 points this season compare to 48 points at this stage last season, if the AMR22 can be improved on going into the second half of the season the team could still finish sixth in the Constructors, results needs to be better.
Williams:
+ Some impressive performances from Alexander Albon this season, which include strong performances at Melbourne (finishing tenth), Imola (finishing eleventh) Miami (finishing ninth) after a season away and for Nicholas Latifi (finishing twelfth place finish at Silverstone).
- 10 points last season compare to 3 points this season at this stage, not great from Williams, slowest car on the grid; the team is heavily relying on Albon (this time) to score points.
Alfa Romeo:
+ Some impressive performances from Valtteri Bottas which include fifth place finsish at Imola and sixth place finishes at Bahrain and Barcalona; 3 points at this stage last season, 51 points at this stage this season means the team sits sixth in the Constructor's standings currently, much better improvement from Alfa Romeo.
-One DNF last season, eight DNFs so far this season includes poor reliablity from the Ferrari Power-Units and Guanyu Zhou's masssive crash at Silverstone could cost the team sixth in the Constructor's standings if it continues; just like Williams the team is heavily relying on Bottas to score points.
Haas:
+ 0 points at this stage last season, 34 points at this stage this season means the team sits seventh in the Constructor's standings currently, some impressive performances from both Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher which includes fifth place for Magnussen at Bahrain at his return after a season away and for Schumacher for sixth place at the Red Bull Ring; much better improvement from Haas.
- Two DNFs last season, Six DNFs so far this season includes poor reliablity from the Ferrari Power-Units and Schumacher massive crashes at Jeddah and Monaco could cost the team seventh in the Constructor's standings if it continues; if the VF-22 can be improved on going into the second half of the season the team could still finish sixth in the Constructors' Standings for Haas.

No word who will be Albon's team-mate for next season. Current team-mate Nicholas Latifi has been widely expected to leave after the current season. Rumours that Williams Academy Driver and Formula 2 driver Logan Sargeant could replace him for next season.
Overall, a very good decision from Williams to keep Alexander Albon for another few seasons.

Confirmed: Oscar Piastri races with Alpine F1 Team for 2023, or is he?
It's been confirmed yesterday (2/8/22), current Alpine reserve driver Oscar Piastri will race with the Alpine F1 Team, for the 2023 Formula 1 season. However, an hour later, Piastri, via a thread on Twitter, denounced Alpine's announcement, stating that he had not signed a contract with the team and that he would not be driving for them in 2023.
Alpine reportedly remained adamant however that Piastri would be legally and contractually obliged to drive for them in the 2023 season. Following these developments media began suggesting that Piastri was a potential candidate in line to replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren for 2023, if allowed to leave Alpine.
The story evoked comparisons to the contract dispute involving Jenson Button back when he tried to leave British American Racing and join Williams for 2005 which ultimately saw the sports' Contract Recognition Board rule in favour of the former mentioned team meaning Button was unable to leave for Williams for that season, with suggestions Piastri's dispute could be resolved in similar method.
In my opinion, it was surprising that the news and the tweet happen. My guess Alpine thought they had Alonso deal done and forgot the deadline for Piastri, he was set to be loan out to Williams for next season. Although, that is off the table now. It's gonna be intresting few months ahead for all parties.
Formula 1 can be a soap opera sometimes according to my boss.
I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year.

Confirmed: Fernando Alonso joins Aston Martin F1 Team for 2023 season on a multi-year deal
It was confirmed yesterday (1/8/22), that Alpine driver Fernando Alonso has signed on a multi-year deal (rumoured till the end of 2025) to replace Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin F1 Team from the 2023 season, alongside Lance Stroll, completing the team's driver line-up for 2023.
Vettel announced on Thursday that he will leave Formula 1 and the team at the end of the season.
This season Alonso currently sits tenth in the Drivers' Standings with forty-one points, with his best race finish of fifth place at Silverstone.
In my opinion, this is a big surprise this news happen. It has been strongly that Alonso would stay with Alpine for another season. My view a gamble for Alonso to go Aston Martin than to stay at Alpine.
So, who would replace Alonso at Alpine next season? Its more than likely that Current F2 Champion and current Alpine test driver Oscar Piastri will replace Alonso at Alpine unless something strangly happens.
A new challenge ahead for Fernando Alonso.

Review of the thirteenth round of the 2022 F1 season at the Hungaroring outside of Budapest, for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

While Current Formula 1 Champion Max Verstappen who started tenth after having Power-unit problems in qualifying moved upto fourth place and pitted for new medium tyres on lap 39. And to respond to Verstappen pit-stop, Leclerc pitted on the next lap for hard tyres which was the wrong call from Ferrari.
