There were plans for the Baku event to join the calendar next season as the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. But, organisers confirmed on Friday (25/7/14), after signing a deal with Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, that it will join the fray a year later than planned will be called now on the European Grand Prix.
Renowned designer Hermann Tilke will be tasked with formulating the circuit on the capital's streets.
It has so far been confirmed that the pit and paddock area will be based around the iconic Azadliq Square.
