Recaps of last round of WRC and the last two rounds from the IRC. First, with Round 5 and 6 of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge rounds at Targa Florio Rally and Belgium Ypres Westhoek Rally. Fifth round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge at the Targa Florio Rally (15-16th June) was won by Jan Kopecký in his Škoda Fabia S2000 ahead of current IRC Champion Andreas Mikkelsen in his Škoda who finished in second place in the rally.
But, the rally will be remembered by the death of Gareth Roberts, co-driver to Craig Breen, who got killed on stage eight of the rally, Roberts died when their car impacted with a guardrail on the eighth stage of the all-asphalt event, near Palermo in Sicily. Breen was unhurt in the accident, it was on the same stage last year were Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica suffered his crash on. So the rally was abandoned after the tragedy. Thoughts go to friends and family of Gareth Roberts.
