Dietrich Mateschitz, the founder of both Red Bull and AlphaTauri Formula 1 teams, has passed away at the age of 78 on Saturday morning (22/10/22) following a long period of fighting pancreatic cancer. Condolences goes out to the family and friends of Dietrich Mateschitz.
Famously, he was the co-founder and 49% owner of Red Bull GmbH, Mateschitz entered into Formula 1 purchased a majority share in Sauber F1 Team in 1995 till 2001 with the Red Bull logos on the cars between 1995 till 2004.
In November 2004, Mateschitz bought the failing Jaguar Racing Formula One team from its previous owners, Ford, and he renamed it as a full-blown Red Bull Racing team for the following season in 2005. In September 2005, Mateschitz joined forces with his close friend and former Formula One driver, Gerhard Berger, to purchase Minardi team from Paul Stoddart. This team was meant to serve as a Junior team to Red Bull Racing and was renamed as Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2006, and then renamed it to AlphaTauri in 2020.
Sebastian Vettel won the 2008 Italian Grand Prix for Toro Rosso. His victory at the 2009 Chinese Grand Prix was the first for Red Bull Racing. In 2010, Red Bull Racing won their first Drivers' and Constructors' championships with Sebastian Vettel. Repeating it again in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
The team won the 2021 Drivers' championship with Max Verstappen. Last time out Max Verstappen won the 2022 Drivers' championship with Red Bull once again with the team set to win the Constructors' championships this weekend.
Gone but not forgotten. His legacy will be there forever.
