2022 Monaco Grand Prix Review
Review of the seventh round of the 2021 F1 season on the streets of Monte Carlo, for the Monaco Grand Prix.
Overall, I thought it was great race to watch despite heavy rain that delayed the start for an hour and a crash from Mick Schumacher that force the race only sixty-four laps instead of seventy-eight laps.
Charles Leclerc qualified on pole for Sunday's race, ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr and Sergio Pérez. With a drying track lap by lap, on lap 17, Pérez pitted for intermediate tyres, followed by Leclerc on lap 19. This left Sainz in the lead, the only driver in the top four still on wet tyres. While Leclerc was behind Pérez after the pit-stops. On lap 21, Sainz pitted for slick tyres, with team-mate Leclerc for tyers as-well. Then on lap lap 22 Pérez and Verstappen turn for slicks and the gamble paid off, Pérez leads the race and Verstappen ahead of Leclerc for third. Despite pressure from Sainz, Jr. for the last few laps it was Pérez's day to win in this seasons Monaco Grand Prix and his first race win of the season.
While, Carlos Sainz Jr. finished in second place in the Ferrari, Sainz Jr. was eleven tenths of a second behind Pérez at the end.
Meanwhile, Current Formula 1 Champion Max Verstappen finished in third place in the other Red Bull to complete the podium, Verstappen was fifteen tenths of a second behind Pérez at the end of the sixty-four lap race.
