Confirmed: Fernando Alonso returns to contest Indianapolis 500 in 2020

It was confirmed of Tuesday (25/2/20) Fernando Alonso will contest next seasons Indianapolis 500 with McLaren once again.

The former double F1 world champion will once again make a one-off entry at Indianapolis with Arrow McLaren SP team, as he did in 2017 and 2019.

If Alonso wins Indy 500 next season, he will achieve motorsport's 'Triple Crown': victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans 24 Hours (only Graham Hill has only achieve this in history).

In my opinion, no surprises that Fernando Alonso competing in the Indy 500 this season.

Name change, Racing Point F1 Team rebranded as Aston Martin Racing for 2021

It was confirmed on Friday (31/1/20), Racing Point F1 Team will be re-branded as Aston Martin Racing from the start of the 2021 F1 season under a ten-year deal, after an investment in the company by Lawrence Stroll.

Stroll acquired the ailing Force India team in mid-2018 and re-branded it as Racing Point for the 2019 season, in which it finished seventh in the Constructors' Standings last year.

A Stroll-led consortium has taken a 16.7 per cent stake in Aston Martin Lagonda (rumored to be £175 million) on Friday, therefore the team will become the Aston Martin works team from the 2021 season onwards. Will continue to compete under the Racing Point name for 2020.

Aston Martin briefly raced in Formula 1 in 1959 and 1960 but its name returned to the championship in 2016 when it formed a partnership with Red Bull Racing.

For 2020 Aston Martin will continue its sponsorship of Red Bull Racing, while the technology partnership between the companies will go on until the Aston Martin Valkyrie is delivered.

The title partnership between Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin will not be renewed for 2021.

It was heavily rumoured since the end of the season that Stroll will invest into Aston Martin brand, meaning the team will have a much better name for Racing Point going into 2021.
