Vandoorne stepped up to a full-time race seat with the team for 2017, after previous success in GP2 (now F2), and has taken a best finish so far this season of tenth place, which he achieved at the Hungarian Grand Prix last time out.
Overall, a good decision from McLaren to keep Stoffel Vandoorne for next season. Although, Vandoorne team-mate Fernando Alonso has not signed a deal yet for 2018 season with the former double world champion indicating that he will make a decision in September or October, meaning he will wait until what power-unit is behind the McLaren for 2018.
