It was confirmed on Tuesday (11/7/2023) that AlphaTauri F1 Team has re-sign former driver Daniel Ricciardo as their second driver for the rest of 2023 season, replacing Nyck de Vries for next weekends Hungarian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo who was released by McLaren last year, will race at the Hungarian Grand Prix, he replaces Nyck de Vries, who has been dropped after only ten Grand Prix with AlphaTauri.

Ricciardo, rejoined Red Bull as a reserve driver at the beginning of this season.

While former Formula E Champion De Vries, has lost his drive after failing to pick up a single point, as well as having several crashes and struggling for form in comparison with younger team-mate Yuki Tsunoda.

Ricciardo rejoined Red Bull, for whom he won seven grands prix between 2014 and 2018, as their third driver at the end of the season and is now back in a full-time race seat after less than half a season out and now returns to AlphaTauri (formally know as Toro Rosso) where he raced for the team between 2012 and 2013.

2023 Australian Grand Prix Review

2023 Australian Grand Prix of the third round of the F1 season at Albert Park on the outskirts of Melbourne.

Overall, the race itself was a good race to watch from start to finish. Current Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen was on pole for Sunday's race ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

Russell took the lead at the start ahead of Hamilton and Verstappen. Until lap 7, Alexander Albon lost control of his car and crashed heavily at turn seven, causing the safety car to be called out; Russell changed his tyres for fresh hard compounds, allowing his teammate Lewis Hamilton to inherit the lead. The race was red-flagged to allow marshals to clean up the debris left by Albon's car and gravel that had been strewn on track. As Russell just changed their tyres in the safety car period, this meant they lost out, as rivals were able to change their tyres during the stoppage.

Hamilton kept his lead at the second restart, but would soon lose the lead into turn 9 as Verstappen overtook him with DRS on lap 12. The race was red-flagged once again on lap 55 after Kevin Magnussen's right-rear wheel made contact with the wall at turn two, damaging his rear suspension and causing the tyre to detach.

The race was restarted again with Verstappen keeping his lead. As the cars reached turn 1 comes chaos, Carlos Sainz, Jr. pushed Fernando Alonso into a spin, the Alpines of Gasly and Esteban Ocon ended their races in the wall after a heavy collision, and Nyck de Vries and Logan Sargeant found themselves in the gravel and out of the race; Stroll, despite also running into the gravel, managed to recover his car and continue the race. The race was red-flagged for a third time.

The race resumed via rolling start at the end of lap 58, which coincided with the checkered flag being shown at the finish line; Max Verstappen win this seasons Australian Grand Prix for Max Verstappen second race win of the season.

While, Sir Lewis Hamilton finished in second place in the Mercedes, Hamilton was two tenths of a second behind Verstappen at the end.

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso finished in third place in the Aston Martin to complete the podium, Alonso was eight tenths of a second behind Verstappen at the end of the fifty-eight lap race.
