On Thusday night, Carroll Shelby has past away at the age of 89. In his career he was an automotive designer and a racing driver. He was most well known for making the AC Motors-based Shelby Cobra and later the Mustang-based performance cars for Shelby Mustang GT which he has done since 1965.
He tried Formula 1 back in the late 1950s with Maserati and Aston Martin and finished fourth in a car shared with Masten Gregory at Monza in 1958 with the Maserati 250F. And won Le Mans as a driver in 1959 with the Aston Martin DBR1 with Roy Salvadori. Also, won as a team boss with his own team with the famous Ford GT40 back in 1966 and 1967.
There is a nice YouTube video of Carroll Shelby from last year, in his own words talking about Shelby Cobra, Shelby Mustang GT, Le Mans, Ford GT40 and future ahead when he leaves this world. Enjoy.
R.I.P Carroll Shelby.
